so, let's summarize
As a senior engineer who has worked in multiple companies for almost 20 years I never came across a company as callous as GD.
Working hours can be crazy especially if you need to communicate offshore. I worked in such schedule is about 6(six) monthes ( my shifts starts from 7PM to 3AM , because all team are located in West coast )
Some projects have more routine than others ( in other words - some of the projects are complete garbage ) and there is no guarantee that you'd be assigned to the one that is best for you and your skillset.
Usually, when the assignment for a project is started - everything is described very colorfully, after the appointment, as a rule, there may even be another technological stack.
if you wanna terminate a business trip earlier ( even in one week ) - beware!! - you must pay for tickets by yourself without any compensation from the company side - that is an explanation from management , I don't know, maybe its a Covid19 related behaviour, or maybe something else - but its true - this situation happened with me in april, 2020.
Btw, travelling allowance for the US trips has been significantly cut last year.
Biggest issue, however, is lack of stability right now - main clients of GD ( according to blog posts ) - is a big retailers - but Amazon took their money and ran with it - and we have a company whose main source of revenue may not come back even after quarantine is ended.
If you want to increase salary - you will be dismissed
If the client cancels you on a project - you will be fired immediately with a minimal severance.
Promise bonuses and incentives that never materialize.
Skill map for the grade system is weird.
Company growth looks more like transition into body shop.
Don't lie about "we help companies with introducing cloud and big data" , just tell that this is common classical “russian outsourcing” , not "american tech company".
Oh,GD will provide you a new macbook, business trips to US and Russia (you *must* spend is about ⅓ your working time onsite - this is a contract point ) , and don't forget please - you just another number in a spreadsheet - and this is all good news for you.
Don't put your career at risk on GD
