- some projects may have toxic management
- you can feel more as an outstaff engineer rather than an employee of the company, because all important decisions are made by the project's management
- requests are processed for a very long time( for example you want to switch the project - it could take minimum several months)
- a lot of extra activities are not paid, but highly requested by the company ( conducting interviews, mentorship, writing blog posts etc.), once you agreed to help, they will load you with more and more requests. The company expects that you will spend extra time to do some things not related to the project based on your enthusiasm.
- lack of the transparency in some processes (staffing, career changes)
- you can build a career and get new titles, but again appreciation will mostly be non-financial
- compensation is on average level
