Very silo oriented company.

Pros

Good people who do the right thing. Mutual company, do not tied to quarterly earnings pressure. Hiring people from outside to give new breath and direction. Changing for the better, but slowly.

Cons

Embarrassingly inefficient. Was a sleepy little mutual company until a few years ago and still has that mind set. Many acquisitions with legacy systems that don't work together. Mindset is more "not my job" versus "let's get it done". If you come from a Met, Hartford, Unum type organization, I would think twice.

Pros

Decent pay and not a very difficult job. Job is made more difficult and stressful due to the poor management team and micromanaging.

Cons

It is well-known within the company the Long Term Disability (LTD) is one of the worst departments to work in. Management is a mess...largely due to politics. Moral is at an all-time low. There is an extreme disconnect among departments & even within the LTD dept. Guardian has changed from small groups to large groups of over 1,000 insured and are not equipped to handle this. Mngt is resistant to change & suggestions for improvements.
