Pros

My division folded 2 years ago so I am no longer with the company. I worked for Guardian in their group life and medical for over 25 years. The first 20 were wonderful. I climbed the ladder at an above average pace. They promoted from within whenever possible. I worked very hard at my job because I loved my job, my team, my management and the company. Human resources provided many team building workshops and seminars which really paid off. We created a mission statement, established metrics and goals to measure our performance as a group and as individuals. We became a high performing, cooperative team. We were happy, management was happy and corporate was happy.

Cons

When several high level directors, VP's and CEO's retired, their replacements changed every thing. The new management was strictly top-down. Input from division managers was not considered and acknowledgement of "a job well done" became non-existent. Mandatory overtime during the week on weekends became the rule. And that is the current state of affairs today. Teams were dissolved and no one was happy...mid level management included.

Climing a tall mountain and taking years to get to the top.

Pros

The company is always looking for new ideas and new ways to reinvent themselves for the customer and the employee. They want to make things easier so you have more time to focus on the customer.

Cons

Working for people who are so uptight is a downer. I know its all corporate, but it really does make you feel tense to show up to your job and know that you will not get credit for your work through bonuses or at least verbal communication. They take your ideas and make it their own.
