Pros
-onsite gym and spin/yoga classes (+$100/yr fitness reimbursement) -onsite cafe -company games & prizes -decent full medical/dental/vision/401k -normal 10 days PTO + 5 extra floating holidays and personal days (15 total vacation days) and 6 sick days -Great name to have on your resume -If you can survive Guess, you can survive any company -IF you're good at your job and IF you have a good manager and IF you're ready at the right time there's upward mobility, but management doesn't always invest in their team
Cons
On your first day at Guess fear is instilled in you. You cannot be outside walking/taking a phone call/basically not at your desk otherwise you can (and people have) get fired. If you need to take a walk it can only be at the designated break times. If you hear Paul's golf cart, you must walk faster and get out of his way, because him going around you isn't an option... When Paul walks in the department/room you must act busy and be quiet. He will ask who you are and what you do. He's unnecessarily suspicious and doesn't trust anyone. Everyone, especially executives, act weird when hes in the room like everyone is his slave. You just need to watch his instagram stories to watch everyone stand in a single file line to wait on him. He pretends he's a cool and laid back guy but he has no problem insulting you while you wait in line at the cafe. Everyone has a Paul story. He is also the issue with the culture at Guess. He promotes a hostile work environment and focus's all of his energy in the wrong areas. Invest in tech and ecom? Nope. He cares more about the god awful models he DMs on instagram. If you remember, he was #metoo'd and the company did an "internal investigation", but nothing happened. He supposedly is only employed "at will" but the guy founded the company so of course nothing changed. His kids work at the company and you always have to be on your best behavior. The company will only move forward when he is no longer involved, but that won't happen ever. Paul's obsessed with everyone being at their desk at 7:30am or 8am, no exceptions. You must scan your ID when you drive in so he knows what time everyone arrives. People get scared when they are 10 mins late because of traffic or maybe their alarm didn't go off. Life happens don't punish employees when they are choosing to work for you. Everyone at a director or executive level feels entitled because they are "in" with Paul and they act like they are untouchable like Paul is. Development and training truly depends on your managers style and if your manager has been there for 8+ years you won't learn anything. People that have been there for 10+ years are incredibly comfortable and are not innovative. They are stuck in the traditional and old way of doing everything. Management style, business development, technology, even working from home isn't a thing. I felt fine about requesting PTO, but I know it's not the case for everyone. Pay isn't competitive and bonuses aren't given to people that deserve it. Bonuses are actually a taboo thing - you are told people don't get bonuses, however, anyone can get one. Just make bonuses applicable to certain levels - don't straight up lie. If you want a raise you will be taken on a wild goose chase. IF, I said IF, you get a raise during your review it will only be 2-3% based on inflation and nothing substantial. If you get a promotion your raise will be at the bottom or below the industry average range. If you ask for more, you get told, "lets re-evaluate in 6 months" but this is that wild goose chase I mentioned because you won't get it. All in all - if you want to work here - don't stay longer than a couple years, because after that you'll get stuck with no rewards.
