Pros

I am on a great project with a team that cares about me.

Cons

Low morale: Rounds of layoffs for anyone who didn’t hit their utilization target. Talk of low-to-zero bonuses this year with the DOGE train wreck and the recent govt shut down. CEO Scott McIntyre actually praised DOGE in an all-hands call before laying off benched employees. No firm identity: This firm is a Frankenstein of acquisitions of smaller companies and has no identity or culture. I really do not care about this company in any way and rarely speak with anyone outside of my project. It is bizarre. Poor coaching: I had to fight so hard to get a competent Pathfinder (mentor) who bothered to care about my career development and performance ratings. I missed a promotion to senior and had to wait an entire year before I could find the right mentor to sell my case. I coached myself for 3.5 years. Had I not done so I would’ve slipped through the cracks because there was no one looking out for me. There’s self-advocacy and then there’s managing upward to make sure you get a fair performance review, let alone a promotion.

Downhill trend

Pros

Varies by project but there are some managers and partners who are very human and genuinely care to help promote you. Unfortunately, the low budget and recent changes to the structure give them less say.

Cons

Excessive pressure since they relied so heavily on the federal contracts that were cut, but it was on a downward trend before that. Since 3 years ago, they increased utilization targets and changed floating holidays to affect your utilization, effectively increasing expectations for the year by 4 work days. This year had rounds of layoffs that said it was for underperformers, but was more for people who slightly missed the utilization targets due to the cancelled contracts and were on the bench. It’s a business and billed hours are required for profits, but this company is changing and the whiplash of changes that only benefit the top is draining. Morale is low and budgets for bonuses are low.
