Pros

If you’re either friends with Ben Francis (Founder / CEO) or a male, this is the place for you - and if you’re both you’ll end up ok board. Bonus!

Cons

It’s run by Bens mates, which has its pros (they don’t really know what they’re doing so it doesn’t matter if you don’t) but if you actually want to develop and learn it’s not the place for you. I’ve been here for 2 years and while it’s generally okay (again head of department really unqualified for their position) other areas are just a mess due to the senior leadership all being way too under qualified to lead a business this size.

Thank you for leaving this review first of all. We appreciate you taking the time to be so honest with us. With the business being in transition and professionalising everyday, finding the right balance between being right, ready and qualified for positions is, of course, a challenge, but one we are endeavouring to support people in as part of day zero as we hope you will know. If you are willing, our People team would love to sit down with you and discuss how we can support you in your learning, development and in general so we can get this right together.

Pros

The other work mates, (APART FROM MANAGEMENT.) The 50% off staff discount.

Cons

Management is shockingly bad, other than the Senior leads the other Team Leads don't seem to have a clue what is going on. Team members know more about the store than Leads and yet the leads are getting paid more. They offshore their tasks to team members when they can't be bothered to do them theirselves. Some team leads genuinely have no knowledge of anything about the company and it is shocking how they got their jobs to begin with but it is no surprise when they all seemed to know each other previously working at Nike together. It's all a bunch of nepotism and it is disgusting. Meant to be an inclusive company but they have staff that tell female staff that if they work out their arms they won't be attractive to men anymore. There is NO communication between anyone in the company so no one knows what is going on at any point and when asking Team Leads you get a response of "Why would I know they don't tell us anything". Unless you have a morning shift you are unlikely to be able to have much of a social life if you're working 2-10 every shift. Staff are very unhappy with the excessive micro managing by leads, no one is listening to staff with their reasonable complaints. About to be a lot of turnovers if nothing is fixed. Good luck to anyone wanting to work here, joke of a company.

Pros

Good company benefits e.g free lunch, gym and PMI

Cons

Perks don't pay bills and pay across a number of different teams is below industry standard. Also lots of inconsistencies between grades and salaries across the business - some execs in the same team with nearly a £20k difference in salary! Same at other levels and grades too. Poor management of hiring process, mass hiring spree over the past 2 years which is now resulting in a lot of those people being made redundant and Gymshark not proposing to pay those people with less than 2 years service any redundancy pay - The package for those with over 2 years was merely uncapped statutory - not reflective of the 'give a sh*t, family first' values they talk so openly about. Complete lack of clarity and clear business direction. A lot of ego and lack of respect and understanding for some functions and parts of the business and particularly unreceptive to feedback on anything that doesn't validate the opinions of a small group of people - typical boys club culture and success depends very much on who you are friends with.
