Pros

if you only need a job, they can provide you a job

Cons

they will underbid you , telling you it will only be 6 months until you get put on full-time at a higher wage, then lying all along to avoid paying even a living wage

Pros

None I can think of except that they'll hire people fresh from college with little or no experience and that they offer a decent pay rate and good benefits for new hires.

Cons

They lie, cheat, and ruin good talent and their way of doing things doesn't make sense. I was told that my relocation expenses would be paid for. They weren't. I relocated to Cary, NC for the training and was forced to move to out of state at my own expense for a project with one of HCL's clients. HCL never reimbursed me for my relocation. They place new hires into a random technology that they don't know they're going to be placed into until after 2 weeks into the program. Also, they hold new hires back on their first payday so you may be a month without a paycheck. After training, you may be benched for several months before being placed onto a project, which keeps you from getting any hands on experience and learning anything. Also, they'll hire people full time without having a project lined up first and let them go if they can't find a project for them. Also, communication is a big problem since home office is in India and since you may be on a development team where half of the team members are working offshore in another time zone and some of your coworkers and supervisors, both onsite and offsite, may not speak English very plainly.

Pros

After proof of salary from the contractor I worked for previously, they offered me a few hundred dollars per year more.

Cons

After the initial offer of employment letter (which was for the wrong work location in the wrong state), I was verbally told about a "Monthly On Goal Performance Bonus" which despite performance, never was delivered. I was also placed on-call 24x7, which I agreed to because of the $40 per day on-call pay that the Employee Manual establishes. After 15 months, that hasn't been paid either, despite endless pleas to management. Additionally, after this same amount of time, no one in my group or a related group has had a performance review, let alone a raise. If you can't get what you need for compensation up front, you never will. Overtime pay is calculated on a quasi-legal basis where you start out getting paid half time (not time and a half...half) for the first hour of overtime and then it goes DOWN from there. Look up the Fair Labor Standards Act "Fluctuating Workweek" method of overtime pay calculation if you want to be shocked at what is legal...that's what you'll get. This company got big by being the cheapest and you don't get to be the cheapest by paying your employees or living up to promises.
