Pros

IT is a job and you get paid. Company provides insurance. You get to work with live bodies. you get an opportunity to gain insight to a different culture.

Cons

They say they can do projects but really can't and spend a lot of time learning the domain and sometimes the programming platform and while clients are complaining, they are making excuses and/or promising more things they can't deliver on. Salary increases are negligible so be sure to negotiate your salary well. Cheap insurance so be sure to have a back up plan. Leadership styles are ineffective for producing the kinds of results they promise to clients. Cultural innuendos erodes trust and make inclusion of women and non-Indians an illusion.

Pros

If you are needed they will take advantage of you and appreciate you without salary raise or promotion

Cons

Every improvement in this company sets the employees back, for example recent change of insurance from Cigna to Blue of California means you can buy glasses only from Walmart, BJ's Costco stores (Beverly Hills for those that made the decision). Recent change to travel claim system prevents you from claiming taxi expenses (no such category), current turnaround time for expense reimbursement 1 month, company does not reimburse for passport or credit card premiums even if you travel 75% of the time. If you travel the approved cost of meals and transportation too low, you either eat fast food and take a bus to your meetings or you have to get your "excess" expenses approved for payment. Constant emails about recommending friends to work at HCL however no intuitive way for internals to explore other opportunities and apply. The company is setup for Indian employees(nationals), even for those of us in the US, when I travel abroad I have to fill visa information for my return home to the USA. Finally, career advancement is not based on ability, it's based on location (India), who you know (nepotism). The "employees first" slogan is one big joke, only used to convince customer that employees will not leave, which is true for all the do-nothings that will not be able to hold a job anywhere their relatives and friends are not managers. Very low retention rate in the US except for employees brought on work visas. Bottom line, all employee related decisions and changes in America are made by incompetent managers offshore that have no understanding of American HR, or cultural awareness.
