Pros

- Nice people. - This company will do well. As an employee, you will not.

Cons

Just ask them what language their code is written in. It is a huge handicap. This will plague the company for years and deeply stunt your development. Then ask about how bonuses compare vs. prior to the private equity takeover. - Want to specialize in an obscure programming language that isn't used at any other company in the world? - Would you like to join a company which has fundamentally shifted its business model (private equity) to no longer offer the level of compensation to employees it did for the last 37 years?

First off, thank you for providing us feedback on your experience here with HCSS, especially regarding the technical side of the business. To address your concerns regarding our coding language, we know that working with stacks like VDF may not seem ideal, but many of our engineers now excel in other tech stacks and, as mentioned in a previous review, individuals from mobile and web teams started by first learning important skills in VDF. With this, HCSS keeps our developers' growth a top priority by offering many ways for them to expand their skills. Regarding our transition to Private Equity, our organizational goal for HCSS is to ensure its continued growth. That will come with some growing pains, but our Leadership Team is continuously working to ensure HCSS is a destination employer. HR has and will continue to review market salary averages and well as keep up to date with any benefits that would improve our employee-first culture. We encourage you to have open conversations with your leaders regarding topics that concern you. Said feedback is crucial in allowing Leadership to be aware of the needs of our employees.

HCSS has changed for the worse

Pros

There is still some small parts of the company that feels like how HCSS used to be. They’ve made some strides to help with employee retention, which shows they are aware of the problems. The company still offers a decent benefits package and encourages healthy living.

Cons

HCSS prides themselves in the incredible culture. This may have held true previously, however it has since changed after the TB acquisition. Management has tried to reassure employees that things have not changed, but it’s as clear as day that the company is now driven on numbers. Employee happiness seems to be the least of their concerns. After losing the option for a higher profit sharing, the salary adjustments has left more to be desired. New hires are being offered higher numbers while tenured employees are expected to just accept what we have in addition to the “culture”. Some departments have it better, but I believe it’s widely known how badly structured the support department is. Feedback does not seem to matter, and promotions are based on availability. If the support team are short on technical support analysts (mostly due to everyone quitting since the job is extremely demanding) they will postpone your promotion to months or even a year later. That’s if you are lucky and that position is still open once you’re allowed to move. People who have quit have aired their concerns, yet management just pushes all tier two techs and tenured tier one techs to do the heavy lifting while allowing new techs to cruise by in comparison. Customers have complained endlessly about the quality of service. It’s clear management finds ways to blame unhappy employees for their deep rooted problems, rather than accepting that change needs to be done. The software is extremely dated and not very intuitive for all users. It seems that the 24/7 support is only needed because the software is always either broken or the logic of it never makes sense to users. To make things worse, developers are dropping like flies and they are bringing in new talent that are being thrown into the flames without any warning.

Pros

Really good money traditionally, love my peers on the sales team. My sales team and my great customers keep me going.

Cons

Since being purchased by a PE firm you're seeing the typical PE playbook. Total compensation is down from pre -acquisition, experienced talent is leaving daily, and the experience that's left carries more burden and more pressure every passing day leading them to leave. I've never seen morale so low.
