Pros

There are several small perks like Friday lunches, casual dress, and nice facilities. The atmosphere has always been low stress and easy to work with others. They also pay all entry fees in sporting events like 5K's and triathlons. Each year we get a generous profit-sharing check on December 15, in time for Christmas. Managers and employees are easy to work with.

Cons

I read the interview reviews and can see what they mean. We do have a long and overly complicated interview process. And it is sometimes conducted by unprepared people with various lines of questioning. I agree that it should be changed dramatically. However, I don't think the interview process reflects the programming or support groups in culture or style. There have also been a handful of complaints about Mike, the CEO. He is a bit brash and whimsical at times. He does change his mind on things and does like to have his hand in lots of projects. While these are not very bad in themselves, he does have room to improve in his delivery of management. Despite these faults I think most reviewers failed to mention one of Mike's greatest strengths. Simply put, he cares about his employees. There is no way to prove it in this medium but consider these facts and give me the benefit of the doubt: 1. He built a memorial gazebo outside the office to commemorate his first employee and friend, Carl Schaer. 2. He gives out an overly generous profit-sharing check each year when he could otherwise distribute it to just the executives. 3. He set the company up as an ESOP in the (correct) hopes that it would make the employees think more like owners. 4. He only hires and promotes managers that have an open door policy because he values input from employees. 5. He takes a regular salary and never wastes company money on fancy hotels rooms, rental cars, etc. When you get down to the details Mike is perhaps an acquired taste personalitywise, but one thing you can count on is the fact that he is reliably nice as a person.

Hiring External, Firing old

Pros

Used to be a great company with fantastic culture. Now they just keep firing leadership and replacing with external people. Majority of the external hires can't even tell you what our top 5 products do. Everyday is some new change. They can't define what good is but they can fire you for not being good enough. Can't go a day without feeling like my job is at risk no matter how many activities or sales are made.

Cons

They are cleaning house of anyone who has been there more than a year. Watched two people get fired for "not being a fit for the new direction" yet they can't say what direction or what good even is. Pay cuts are going all around the department. Constant commission pay changes.

Dear employee, thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We know there have been some recent changes within our Lead Generation Team regarding upper management but please know that while those decisions are never easy to make, they were not done without extensive investigation and research, with the continued prosperity of our Sales Team in mind. We take the feedback of our employees very seriously and are aware that to grow from here, we'll need the help and feedback of our Lead Gen Team to ensure we provide them with proper guidance. We recently held a feedback session for this team, where we openly discussed what they'd like to see from leadership in the future, and what we can provide moving forward to help them succeed after the recent changes. I hope you were able to attend this session! Overall, our goal is the growth of HCSS and we will continue to ensure all employees, both new and old, are presented with a positive environment for that growth. Please continue to speak with your leaders on how we can best provide that to you.

Where should I start?

Pros

-The small perks are nice and compensation with profit share is average or above average. -Most of the leadership team have good intentions. -Most employees are helpful towards each other and customers. -The overall work environment is fun.

Cons

-There are dated business processes, lots of long time employees seem to be stuck their ways. They seem to think it’s okay to do business as usual, even though there is a better way. If you want to grow as a company, you better invest in better business processes. -Middle mgmt and supervisors play the smoke and mirror game. - Some of the mgmt lack the right work experience and personality to run a department or team, which is frustrating for staff level employees that need issues to be resolved. -The WFH policy is below average compared to other software companies. -Programming language is dated, again time for an update. -Onboarding process is somewhat like hazing (you have prove yourself by doing presentations, etc), if you don’t trust or like someone don’t hire them! -Career advancement is not consistent across all departments. -Leadership asks you to speak up and when you do, you get shot down. So what is the point?
