Your manager will make or break you here

Pros

The company itself is still finding its footing after being sold to Thoma Bravo. Many changes have been made for the better and for the worse but mostly better. I was appreciative for the changes such as the paternity leave and the ability to work remotely (really enjoyed that). Seemed like overall, the company is trying to "keep up with the times".

Cons

If I'm being quite frank, it's your manager that will make or break your experience here. I have worked with many proficient managers but there are some managers and employees that are not on the same page with the values of the company. Those individuals are more concerned with how they come across upper management and blindly "doing what they are told" without considering the human aspect that is needed when working with others. I have seen plenty of people that have kept their heads down, and not say anything when something is happening, so they can keep their jobs.

We always appreciate the feedback we receive from those who have spent time here with us at HCSS! As you mentioned, we are working to find our footing as we continue to grow after our recent acquisition and this will come with changes. Overall though, we want to ensure we grow for the better so it's very nice to hear some of our more recent benefit changes are a good addition for our employees. To speak to your concerns regarding management, we never want our employees to feel as though they cannot speak out. We strive for our work environment to be honest and transparent, so please feel free to email employeereviews@hcss.com with any details you feel comfortable providing.

Fine, but not great

Pros

The usual tech startup style campus. Gatorade in the fridge. Walking track. Ping pong tables. Seemingly has strong market edge in their software niche, which adds some sense of stability to the company as a whole.

Cons

Strong bias towards individual execs and upper management making snap decisions and creating an "in crowd" and an "out crowd". If you are seen as a good cultural fit, which absolutely includes attributes beyond the stated values, you may find yourself rewarded with quick success. If you find yourself on the bad side of the wrong person, you have already reached the height of your career here. Based on personal experience and hearsay from other former employees, the pay is below-average in most areas for anyone woth a few years experience.

Pros

I like my fellow coworkers for the most part. The money is ok WHEN you add profit sharing.

Cons

Ok, where do I even begin. A few months ago an email was sent that we were to return to this office and that people would be required to wear masks. I ASSUMED, we would either have a policy in place to require vaccinations or daily testing. Neither of those things are required and after governor Abbot prematurely lifted mask mandates, our Desantis loving CEO scrapped any mask requirements. People are getting COVID left and right in the building and there is not one mention of it. I am super frustrated that I am being hauled into a hot spot of a company on Sept 1. I’m looking for another job where I can work remote and feel safe. People won’t speak up because they are afraid of the backlash from a mostly republican group of employees. COVID is not going anywhere anytime soon.

To say that people are getting COVID left and right on our campus is simply false. By no means are we a “hot spot”. Anyone who has come into direct contact with an infected person is notified by either the individual or HR. If you haven’t been notified, it is because you haven’t been in contact with an infected person. We realize that our employees are asking for more transparency on this topic, and we are discussing the best way to share COVID updates without violating HIPAA. While we are not currently asking all employees to wear masks, this is subject to change in the future. We are still providing KN95 masks and face shields to any employee who requests one. We are also working on creating an emblem that employees can put outside of their office/ workstation to notify others that a mask is requested before entering their workspace. Masks are not mandatory as of today, but this could change in the future. It is unfortunate that COVID has become a political issue. Because of this, any decision made will be cited as favoring one political party or another. The political beliefs of HCSS employees is completely irrelevant. Employees are encouraged to speak up time and time again, and there has been direct action as a result of employee feedback.
