Pros

After a long time in software development, I chanced upon HCSS. I was drawn in by how deeply HCSS is invested in employees' well being and long term growth. Within just a few months, I knew HCSS was the right choice for me. Some of the pros that I've experienced directly or been party to: -A culture based on employee ownership and self-reliance -Compassionate coworkers that deeply care about your success -A chance to establish your own role at HCSS so long as it brings value -Freedom and support in pursuing both personal and professional self improvement goals -Direct access to all levels of management up to and including the Owner/CEO -Being able to directly impact the careers and lives of coworkers in a positive way -Opportunities to manage and implement your own ideas and initiatives both small and large in scope I have learned so much in just a few years with HCSS. Before HCSS, I knew how to work hard; now I know how to work effectively on the things that really matter. I had led teams and supervised before HCSS; now I know how to lead by example, inspire others, and work collaboratively with other departments and leaders to accomplish goals. I used to view my job as a separate part of my life; something that supported my home life at best, something I dreaded going to at worst. HCSS has changed all that: There is just life now--exciting, special and meaningful, day in and day out. And I have a hard time imagining HCSS not being part of it.

Cons

A side effect of working in a such positive environment with well-intentioned peers is that even the smallest pieces of drama and emotional expense tend to stand out. Memories are often long, and it can take time to overcome mistakes and re-earn trust (starting out on the wrong foot can be particularly difficult to recover from). We preach that the best way to confront conflict is head on, but this does not always jibe with our compassionate, easygoing nature. In this way, HCSS may not be a great place for highly emotional people that tend to carry a lot of stress/worry and try to please everyone all the time.

Pros

Flexible schedule, no micromanagement at the supervisor level. A lot of perks and benefits. Overall positive vibe. Best place I've worked for ever.

Cons

Many people get complacent with the norm and there is not as much accountability for poor results. Also many people take the perks for granted.

That's great advice on setting goals at all levels and holding people accountable. This is a key goal for the company and we want every single employee to be accountable for specific and measurable goals so we can continue our rapid growth. We are making significant progress in this area with more formal career paths, supervisor training, Agile training in development, and the 70s accountability program in Services, but there is work to be done. We are working to find the right mix of freedom and ownership thinking while still holding everyone accountable so please keep working in your area to help lead these changes.

Pros

The healthcare is not as good as other companies when you just look at the deductibles and percent you have to pay but when you figure in the fact that it is FREE and you get at least $1,000/year that rolls over in your HRA then it works out to be much better than any other plan I have been a part of. After 3 years your children are free on the plan as well. This could save you upwards of $300/month compared to what you pay with other employers. So the deductible may be a little high and your only option is an 80/20 plan but in the long run it is better. Not to mention you get free access to workout classes and an onsite gym to keep you healthy. The company size limits what kind of plans we can get for a god price so they are doing the best they can to make up for it with the HRA and free coverage. Look at the big picture and you are better off. You may pay a bit more when you need it but you pay ALOT less every month. 401K match is only 3% but you do get ESOP each year as a part of your profit sharing> Employees at HCSS are well above average in terms of retirement account balances for our age.

Cons

The insurance provider is a pain to deal with they never seem to get anything right the first time it is billed. their tracking of disbursements in poor at best. They do not provide a way to pay providers from the HRA yourself which has caused all kinds of issues with tracking and monitoring who gets paid combine that with the poor record keeping and its a mess to straighten out bills when multiple providers are involved. But I have never had a good experience with any insurance company there's is just slightly worse that the majority. I with it was slight better though. 40k match is only 3% Compensation seems low up front but benefits and raises help
