Pros

HAD fun employee incentives/ gatherings

Cons

Hired too many engineers that DONT know how to do the job thinking they know better ultimately causing issues in all departments NO accountability for those breaking policy THose who don't work get rewarded-those who do just get more work When I first started here-incentives for goals were awesome-team building was awesome-even family days were amazing-now they are non-existant Location is closing because of poor management/ engineers

Awful Production Planning

Pros

Don't have to worry about not working.

Cons

We just went to 4 - 10 hour days this week, but we are still working 6 days a week. What is the point of going to a 4-10 hour days if production still requires 6 days a week. Production managers do not know how to manage production schedules. Leave early half the time, but still required to work overtime on Saturdays. Leadership is just trying to squeeze as much out of people without giving a crap about work/life balance. Get it together HNI, or you will continue to lose members. I rate this a big fat zero for work/life balance.

Pros

-Great exposure - you'll work on high impact projects even as a newer employee. Great company to get post college experience right away. -Career flexibility - multiple manufacturing sites and HQ buildings provide opportunities to move around jobs somewhat easily -Close knit employee community - as you would expect from a small town Iowa based employer

Cons

-Location - Muscatine, IA is not for everyone. It's a mid-sized Iowa town with limited things to do outside of work. Hard to keep young talent interested in staying in IA and there is a lack of career opportunity in other desirable locations throughout HNI (most are also small towns) -Lack of PTO/workplace flexibility - this may have changed a bit post COVID - but starting off at 10 days PTO and only getting a bump to 13 days after 4 years is not competitive. In person work was expected -Trial by fire - you'll get thrown into big time project to see if you sink or swim. Long hours/OT expected to get the job done -Lack of outside professional development - HNI tries to do most of their employee development internally which can be hit or miss and doesn't help with career progression to other companies
