You should probably look elsewhere.

Pros

Discounts on books, movies and music.

Cons

Biggest con is little to no pay. It is also pretty difficult to move up in the company unless you "know" someone in higher management or are sleeping with/married to someone that can help you progress. The company used to have a decent benefits package, but even that is changing. Overall, I would not recommend this company to anyone who is looking to advance their career in any way in a reasonable amount of time, unless you can meet the above criteria. The company has really gone downhill since I first began. It's too bad, really. I used to actually believe in the company and was excited to make a name for myself there. Oh well, their loss.

Decent but flawed

Pros

Good benefits, especially for retail. Health, dental, vision, life insurance. 401k. Profit-sharing.

Cons

Really inconsistent management. Work conditions vary wildly from store to store, district to district. If you're at a store with a good location, your day will be easier than a struggling store, through no fault of your own. This is true of base employees and management alike. No solutions will be coming from the top. Corporate execs came up through the company and know a culture of family, but haven't worked in the stores as they are today. If you want to stay for any length of time now, you have to have a spouse/partner who makes real money while you provide the benefits, or just be one of the old school hpb types still couch surfing at 48,, playing in a bar band and happy to be working at all.

Pros

Great laid back, but still busy environment. There is always something to do, so you never feel like you are wasting your time. You also meet a lot of interesting people and get to see new products everyday.

Cons

There are a lot of difficult customers who don't agree with the store's buying policies. A lot of customers will try to negotiate prices, which we are not allowed to adjust.
