Fun job, awful management

Pros

The work itself was fun and kept me engaged and my brain running.

Cons

Management acted like teenagers. 3 out of 5 of the management while I was here were awful people: no patience for my autism, gossip about employees, blatant and obvious favoritism, no empathy for my personal life situation. Suffice it to say, I was essentially told to plan my domestic violence better so it wouldn’t inconvenience their scheduling. Absolutely abysmal.

Pros

Discounts on books I guess

Cons

Unprofessional and unsympathetic management, terrible hours would have to get there at 6am to throw away unwanted loads of perfectly fine books and media, has to juggle lots of tasks with unrealistic expectations, the pay was crap for the amount of labor, my mental health declined working there

Pros

The discount used to be lovely, but corporate started cutting back. Camaraderie was stellar, but that doesn't help pay the bills. Hour long lunch breaks were also beneficial. Shockingly good health insurance once upon a time.

Cons

Management is ineffective. Training was not properly thorough, and during chaotic hiring times, it was almost non-existent. People in upper management (assistant, store, district) should not have held their position or title at all due to being out of touch, hypocritical, and contradictory. Customers would become irate after you gave them offers for their items- sentimental value does not trump what someone would be willing to purchase for it. Weekends and summers were among the most crushing times of the year due to management deciding to take vacations. Bonuses became non-existent outside of the holidays, and you would only get limited overtime during summer or winter hours.
