Pros

- Pay is at least a dollar better than minimum age, for starting. - Some coworkers were nice. - Customers aren't as bad as people make them out to be, but I suppose that's because the store is in a small town where everyone knows everyone. - Our schedules are very flexible and my supervisor was very understanding (for the most part). - Training is paid.

Cons

- Some of the other coworkers you could practically tell they despise their jobs. To me, this increases the tension I feel while on the job, especially since I'm scheduled to work with most of them. - The store is short of staff quite often. A few days ago, there was a rush of people during the morning and I was one of the two cashiers out. - A lot of stuff you "learn" via computer training is wrong; a lot of on-the-job training.

From Good To Bad To Worse

Pros

*Some really nice people to work with. *Most customers appreciate our hard work. *If you are young, or a woman, or an RMT, or a best friend of a Manager, or a combination of all of these, then you have some Career opportunity. *Hard work does help you stand out, but it just leads to more hard work while managers take advantage. *Excellent time off for years worked. *Can and should be a really great place to work. Depends on who is running the store, which changes somewhat often.

Cons

*Not the same Hannaford I started with years ago. While the store I work at does excellent business, it's apparent Delhaize is in trouble. Even so, it's still all champagne and cookies for too many salaried managers who seem to think a scheduled 9 hour shift means being there 6 or 7 hours. They just beat on their hardest workers for results. *Top store management come in late, disappear for two hour lunch breaks and leave early. While actually in the building, they hide in their offices with the door shut most of the day. The only time they seem to have a sense of urgency is when they expect "company" from the DM or above. Then they panic. *Favoritism. You could be useless as an Associate, but if the Manager likes you, or you have a strong willed personality they do not want to deal with, you get the hours you prefer and sick calls or coming in late are not usually logged as they are for others. The rest will accumulate a file, mostly without your knowledge, and your life can be made very unpleasant.
