Delhaize has ruined what used to be a great family-owned company.
Pros
I have worked with some awesome people and there is a wide variety of tasks to do, which keeps the job interesting. I adore my regular customers and I love helping people on the sales floor.
Cons
Since Delhaize took over, they have eliminated numerous full-time positions, drastically cut payroll hours, discontinued a profit-sharing fund, cut back on paid time-off benefits, and implemented unrealistic expectations. Because of this, everyone has to do the work of 2-3 people, which has resulted in a huge increase in work-related injuries, overtired, overworked, and stressed associates at every level. Morale has been down-spiraling out of control. There is no longer time for the attention to detail which used to make us a top-notch store, because all they care about is how fast you can work, with no regard for our safety or the quality of your work. I have to apologize to customers every day because there are not enough associates on duty to help them. They have lumped departments together and expect everyone to be an expert in everything, piling more and more responsibility onto less people, with no increase in pay or benefits. The only day they close is Christmas day, which means people have to sacrifice time off with loved ones on holidays.
