Good place to work

Pros

Schedules ran from Sunday-Saturday and came out on Wednesday or Thursday. If you needed to call in sick, you could actually do so without having to worry about getting written up, unless it was happening all the time. You get a 15 minute break if you are scheduled to work 4 plus hours, a 30 minute unpaid lunch when scheduled to work at least 6 hours, and if you work 8 or more hours then you get 2 breaks and a lunch. Working in a small town, you feel like you know pretty much everyone that comes in and also there is a sense of comradery between the departments and most employees know the other people who work in the other departments. There were also opportunities in this store to work in other departments and pick up some extra hours if they needed some extra help. The grocery department always seemed short handed, so they would always ask people from the Front-End if they wanted some extra hours stocking shelves. The bosses and other shift leaders were awesome and I really loved working there!

Cons

Part-time doesn't get you any of the company benefits, but that's how most part-time jobs work. You could wind up working any time during the hours of the store. Some of the customers are really rude, especially when the debit card/food stamps system goes down. The policies tend to change a lot for cashiers, i.e. what age to card for alcohol and tobacco, hosting at the end of the registers, no standing around, etc. Stand on your feet the entire time.

Pros

Very easy work, nice customers, peers are nice, close to home, good for breaks(only because they get in trouble)

Cons

I shop here and the fact that they have such good products I was surprised at the lack of intelligence of the management. They are scared a younger more intelligentperson is going to take their job so they give a hard time(btw I never wanted their job). They are beyond unfriendly. Its sad to see. You get paid 8.50 an hr to do the easiest work, but if the management thinks you are more intelligent than they are they make it almost impossible to get through a day. Durring my interview with a very nice lady I was introduced to the manager of the dept. I would work in she rolled her eyes...days later she commented that "she is scared of someone taking her job". I don't think I want to shop there anymore. Also when greeting another higher up manager I asked how he made out in hurricane sandy...he stepped back in almost disbelief that a worker spoke to him awkwardly ignored my and then turned and asked the other manager how she made out. This place is laughably unbelievable .I could keep writing, maybe I will.
