Pros

Good people in the stores. Good retailer. Communication is very good. Good benefits. Good vacation program. The experience in the stores allows you to understand every aspect of retail, and Hannaford is a pretty good operator. Some people in working at retail as well as in the corporate office are truly nice people.

Cons

Advancement can be really slow. Career path not well defined. Low salary. Disconnect between main office and retail. Promotions depend on too many subjective factors. Growth opportunities are mostly in Maine. District Managers can sometimes slow down your career by not having clear ways to evaluate your performance.

Pros

It was close to where I live and a good job during the summer in college. They have a great staff and friendly group to work with. Management was fair in dealing with employees and seemed to be interested in helping maintain a life work balance for employees. I also enjoyed meeting the many new people both that worked there and customers. The management was also very understanding of student schedules. Overall, it was a good job when you had no where else to work but I do not think that anyone really wants to stay there for a real long time.

Cons

HOURS, HOURS, HOURS !!! You never get enough hours in the summer time. As a part time employee I never got as many hours as I wanted. They also put your hours into blocks as small as .75 hours. That does not even pay for my gas to get to work. It is also hard to deal with some of the customers, you have to deal with some real unfriendly faces but I guess that is part of customer service. It also goes at a very fast pace so there is a little stress on your part as a cashier.
