Challenging work, for better or worse

Pros

Each project I worked on was different, presenting its own set of challenges and obstacles. This was something I was looking for in a job.

Cons

Deadlines are extremely tight. Very little guidance given for each project, but it's liable to change radically the day before it's due. Nevermind the deadline, it's frustrating to work on something for naught.

Our clients and partners set very high expectations in terms of product quality and turnaround times and we are clear during the hiring process that the research role is deadline driven and competitive however I can appreciate that this can be very challenging at times, especially when you are working independently. We continue to invest in manager training along with other forms of professional development for all employees and continue to hire experienced managers from outside the firm to infuse new energy and people management skills into each department. Interesting research reports with typical 4-7 day turnaround. Supportive team atmosphere. Good work life balance. Young, but not too young, office environment. Free snacks and coffee/tea, breakfast meetings, occasional pizza day (that makes a difference). Occasional early Friday for research teams meeting goals. Health benefits, 401k matched 2% by Hanover, life insurance, good PTO. Flexibility for remote work. Great atmosphere, definitely recommend it.

Cons

Very quiet atmosphere. Looking at a computer all the time. It can be challenging to focus on only one project at a time for so many hours.

Pros

I am a fairly new employee at Hanover, so I don't have any perspective on how it is to work here long-term. I am very satisfied with my experience so far. I like learning in-depth on topics which are of interest to me (I'm very interested in education) and learning about a new topic every week or so. People are nice. I feel supported.

Cons

It can be hard to write lengthy papers in a short amount of time. I sometimes worry that I'm not doing as good of a job as I could be, or as good as others are doing.
