Pros

Great brand and product, fantastic customer base.

Cons

The current leadership has managed to annihilate product development and engineering and populate these key functions by incompetence and mediocrity. Outsourcing trends are downright scary as the leadership is deliberately trying to outsource lost skill and severely depleted human capital. Outsourcing is becoming a way to make this great American company global, but I think that the company is at risk of losing its American identity in this shortsighted process. This was once one of the great American companies, today it is at risk of becoming one of many mediocre global companies and that it's if the things go well for the current leadership. And, if the things don't go well for them, it may be the end. Either way, Harley Davidson is never going to be a great American company again.

Pros

Great Product and History. Great job for those who can have contact with customers. Good opportunity to get a diversified background in product design.

Cons

Key leaders are now gone that lead product innovation and design. Since 2005 H-D has disregarded experience and knowledge of product and gone to cheap labor and outsourcing in the effort to bolster its stock (fooling most Wall Street groups). Recent departures of key engineering personnel either by choice or forced out is leaving the company powerless to lead the industry.

Pros

Still have a few good managers and Engineers. They have a good public image (for now). Had a really great and deciated workforce who would always go the extra mile to improve processes and cut costs.

Cons

Top management has shown they will make all decisions right or wrong and want no input from employees. New management has shown it does not want to partner with employees. New management has started outsourcing many parts, they don't feel Harley made really means anything anymore. They have started down a road of hiring temps. or casuals as they call them and have laid off better qualified people. They are on a cycle of cutting costs at the expense of our brand name so they can increase profits to line their pockets. There are so many outside contractors working at Harley now, you would be hard pressed to know who is a regular employee and who isn't. All of these things are bringing down Harley Davidson and the employees and middle management know it but you can't say anything or you will lose your job. What built this company was both workers and management working together with one thing in mind, to make Harley Davidson the best Motorcycle out there. We were once an example of a great company. No More. My way or the highway Keith Wandell has changed Harley Davidson, to bad it went in the wrong direction.
