Pros

- Good fitness centers (although little time to use them), free parking. - Great brand (it's what keep people there and management being able to tell staff "you should be lucky to work here.") - Good benefits (although they decline a little each year) - Casual work environment and dress code.

Cons

- Leadership "talks" about values, caring about people, and doing what's right for the customer, but - Big corporate profits and big egos. From marketing to engineering and certainly down to the manufacturing and supplier level. Little respect or care for the individual. - Lots and lots of corporate politics, and you better smile through 24/7 work days. - Lack of accountability within cross-functional teams. - Poor HR department, not engaged with nor understand what employee development means. When Operational and Development Teams tried to address in the past, C-level leadership didn't want to hear it, and Director-level just bows down and tosses their staff under the bus in order to stay ahead. - Horrible change management and change leadership. If something goes wrong, they just fire those closest to it. People DO NOT matter. - Organizational structure does not meet the needs of the business - understaffed and angry teams. - General culture is still old-school. If you're not a white male, you best stay in the shadows and learn that "we want to hear your voice" really means "tell leadership what they want to hear." The past three years of "anonymous employee surveys" where Director-level and above bonus compensation requires improved employee satisfaction, has accounted in a suspicious number of people being let go.

Pros

The third generation of the Davidson family is involved in the day to day operations of the company. They are wonderful people and so inspiring. The history is rich and riding is fun. Employees staff most of the events and have the opportunity to interact with customers. It is a great experience to work an event like Daytona Bike Week or Sturgis.

Cons

The middle and upper levels of management are primarily home grown. Many have not worked for another company and came to H-D out of college. The culture is very out of date and could best be described as "good old boy". Even though one of the top 5 focus areas has been Leadership development, there has been very little impact. There is very little room for advancement unless you have a person “in” with someone at a higher level in the company.

Pros

* Still some great people who truly CARE about the company in the rank and file of IT dept * What truly makes the company still good is the employees that still fill it's factories, offices and cubicles, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, its factories in York and KC and its HDFS and HDDS subsidiaries. There are truly still good people there who work hard. * Other departments' staff have been empathetic for long-time IT employees who are being outsourced & have reached out as best they can with advice/references.

Cons

* Upper IT management sidestepped questions about outsourcing plans to an India-based company for over a year, even after being asked directly by employees time and again. Company values that used to be held so dear seem to be long forgotten as they no longer seem to serve a purpose. * After announcing the outsourcing plan in the press, slammed effected employees by saying the outsourcers could perform the work better than employees had been doing it. * Company no longer has family-friendly feel it once had as little as 5 years ago * There's an expectation from mgmt to work long hours, as many as it takes, forget holidays & your family time, with no reward or benefit. I've been called on MANY planned vacation days to provide support with no thanks or reward. * HR is a disaster. Many things have been taken to them as areas of concern and those things have been allowed to persist for YEARS. They just want you to go away at any cost, instead of doing the right thing by their employees. * Good old boy system fully in effect when it comes to job opportunities. More opportunities and fringe benefits are given to those in the Milwaukee home office than other sites. HD Financial services also have different benefits and opportunities than HD Motor Company employees. However, this can work against you if you are trying to get a job site-to-site, division-to-division. If you don't "know" someone, kiss up, have the "in", or sit at a particular site, forget your skills, you have no chance.
