Pros

Benefits, salary, passion brand appeal

Cons

This is specific to HQ in Milwaukee. Seasonal reorgs and layoffs, Masked discrimination if you have a non-English name or accent. They stare at you when you speak with an accent as if you are an allien although you’re the smartest person in a room full of shortsighted and narrow minded people with fat titles. Leaders with mind-boggling arrogance and attitude. HR are brutal, their job is to fire people or find ways to fire people. Talk a good game about diversity and inclusion but know nothing about it. Highest levels of ignorance when it comes to international business, true hillbillies. Zero global mindset. Managerial and executive positions are highly driven by politics. They make you feel that you should be grateful to be an H-D employee even if you are being boxed and abused mentally with their lack of stability and never ending reorgs. They do not treat employees with dignity even if they were living on their own. They sell freedom and bond in their ads while their internal culture is nowhere near. You only realize how bad it is when you leave.

Pros

They offered relocation. Salary was ok but cut by COVID.

Cons

So much. I was laid off in July after being relocated with family just a year earlier, put in a position where I was locked into a relocation agreement for another year so I couldn’t proactively look for a job, then tossed out into a weak job market in a city where I had yet to build a work network. I’ve been very fortunate to find work elsewhere, but H-Ds treatment was horrible. The director I worked under was hands down the worst leader I’ve ever encountered. He had a history of failures but rather than getting rid of him he was just moved around where his failures would have a lower impact. He offered no insight or support for the department. People referred to him as a “bulldog” because he’d lose his mind on people (scream, swear) in meetings...and they acted like that was a compliment. That sums up the H-D culture in a nutshell. Beyond that, I was completely on my own from day one. No one offered any training or help. No one seemed to even know how to do their own jobs. Leadership was constantly changing, and each time they overhauled everything just to put their own signature on things, halting any progress. They threw out any plans to build a viable future with Jochen zeitz coming in and pandering to investors that are looking for a quick cash in before H-D takes its final hits with its aging demographic and goes under. I went from feeling like a confident, accomplished professional with 10 years of great experience to being completely beat down, berated and having my confidence destroyed in under a year. I can’t even express how happy I am that I am out of H-D.

Pros

I was provided plenty of opportunities for growth and development. HD rewards employees who work hard and drive results while demonstrating positive behaviors - meaning you can't just steamroll over people to get results. Good vacation policy including for Milwaukee based salary teams getting a holiday shutdown. I was compensated fairly and received bonuses. I felt that leadership listened and valued my opinion.

Cons

The company has a tendency to sign up for too much work and don't always know how to stop work that is not necessary. If you are a high performer there is a feeling or perception that you can not say no to work.
