Some Opportunities, Some Frustrations

Pros

There are good opportunities if you are willing to work [very] hard. Many great coworkers who love books. Excellent benefits.

Cons

Currently very understaffed with very uneven workloads. Often poor communication from management. Some rules don't seem to apply to everyone.

Pros

HC is a good place to start a career in publishing or media. It's the kind of place that teaches you to learn through trial and error , rather than mentoring because upper management is even more overwhelmed with work than their staff.

Cons

The culture is very gossip and secretive. The executives have their "favorites" and it's obvious to the entire company who they are. These people can get away with pretty much anything.

Pros

A mostly fair workplace, with generally very good benefits. The sales team I work with is enthusiastic about their work, and there are a lot of great, good people to make friends with.

Cons

There haven't been any raises or promotions for quite some time now, and since layoffs, there's a vibe from upper management that it would be ungrateful somehow to expect more.
