Pros

The work they do advances political freedom all over the world via the Internet. They research all the current technologies and law that might interfere with the freedoms of information that the Internet can provide, and advance studies to tell Congress what's going on. While I worked there, I really felt like I was part of a great idea that was really relevant and helpful to society. I also loved all the other interns I worked with. They are a really sharp bunch undergraduate and graduate law students.

Cons

It's a small organization and the building is not airconditioned during the summer.

Pros

The prestige and the non-compensation benefits are the primary reasons for working at Harvard, at least in the case of my job function. In addition, the flexibility and life balance expectations of working in a non-profit are very generous, and entirely different from (better than) the private sector. As the most well-funded university in the world, resources were usually not an issue.

Cons

This is department specific, but the organizational structure of my department was relatively flat, and opportunities for career advancement were relatively scarce. In addition, as you might expect from a non-profit, compensation was not as generous as in the private sector.

Pros

Its name value. Harvard name on the resume often gets the attention of the prospective employers. It has tons of resources to use towards research.

Cons

The focus of the whole school seems to be primarily on undergraduates. Your life quality and career growth heavily depend on the professor you're working for. Some of the professors don't qualified to be advising graduate students or postdocs and they don't have the technical knowledge or interests in the training of the advisees.
