The mission cannot be beat

Pros

The mission of this company cannot be beat! We have some of the most passionate and committed employees that want to do good work that has an impact outside of our four walls. It's not always easy but I have a team that supports me, and a manager that cares and is actively involved in my professional and personal growth.

Cons

As with most companies there are growing pains. It's impossible and unrealistic to do right by every employee but by and large people really try to do the right thing - more so than other places I've worked. Yes, there are challenges and yes, there are bad days but you have that everywhere. I am a more seasoned professional so having held a number of different roles at different organizations I am able to understand that a growing, maturing business comes with a number of problems. This is an exciting opportunity though as we are all able to be part of the solution. Change takes time and I believe that most of our leaders are interested in improving. Feedback is being gathered and shared in order to educate our leaders on what's working and what's not working. It's not something that will be solved overnight but I believe most employees are interested in helping make HS a great place to come to work.

Pros

It's a "fun" place to work at, with still a lot of impact that can be done. The environment feels young and people who work at Headspace are really nice to work with. If you're a "people person" you may love this place, but not so much if you want a place to build new and better.

Cons

It is a dead end for professional growth. Although if titles is what you're looking for, this place might have that for you. Otherwise, there's little opportunity for learning as ideas are heavily politicized. The organization is something between small and big companies: they try to document everything but they don't want to document anything, they try to implement best practices but they don't want best practices, etc... it feels as if they just want to keep it a free and open playground but at the same time know they could be doing better. This ends up in an awkward place where you (as a developer) will feel restricted by internal operations and also lack some crucial direction.

Where Talent Goes to Be Squandered

Pros

Pleasant office. Nice perks. Upbeat environment. Several talented coworkers.

Cons

Product and mission statement compromised by investors' wish to scale the company to unreasonable numbers. Upper management comes and go, and leave a mess in their wake. Lots of internal churn.
