Pros

-If you are someone looking to dip their toes into the start-up scene for the first time, then Headspace is a cool place to learn and execute ideas. -The folks who do the actual work, ya know, the folks who get their hands dirty working the salt mines, they are cool, brave, and believe in the Headspace mission to make the world happier and healthier. -Andy Puddicombe literally IS Headspace. He's the brand, the voice, the guru. Spending time with him, and learning from him is quite an experience. It's one I will cherish for the rest of my life. Andy, you are an amazing human being. -Free lunch, flexible work hours, interesting people!

Cons

-If you're the kind of person who works hard and wants to rise in the HS ranks, good luck sucker! Ain't gonna happen at HS. Dream on! -You've worked super-hard, brought value, and would like a raise? Suckerrrr!! Buh-bye! -The company is run by an inner cabal of VPs. There are over half dozen VPs in a company the size of roughly 180 employees. Here's an idea, get rid of these VPs suckling at Headspace's financial teats, and promote folks from below who are actually doing the real work. What the folks don't need - one more one-on-one meeting. -Oooo ooo look look, shiny object! So brilliant, I want it, and I want it now! That's how the VPs operate at HS. -All the great folks from engineering, analytics, finance, and marketing have left or are leaving. -But that's okay, because HS is in hiring frenzy. -They are brilliant at copying ideas from other tech companies, and then they brand it as "innovation." -Don't fool yourself, this is NOT a tech company; it's a content company, organized like an ad agency, posing to be a tech company with the hopes of becoming a platform to deliver meditation content. Ooo "platform", another buzz word the executives love using there. -Oh, did I fail to mention that there is absolutely no culture of debate and discord? The commandments are issued from Mt. Headspace, and the will of the executives has to surely be followed, otherwise you face imminent termination with no benefits. -The app subscription is expensive. -The values of the company are: kindness, authenticity, and creativity. Sadly the leadership exemplifies anything but. -Sadly, not a lot of Headspace employees really know what's going on. But then again, ignorance is bliss. -Good luck getting paid what your true market value is; but hey if you are an executive, pucker up your lips for that juicy teat. -You just got terminated and kicked out the door with no benefits? Oh, and you did valuable work, and you were kind and well liked at HS? Prepare to be bullied, insulted, and treated like garbage; Headspace kindness! ;)

Pros

Listen, nobody's perfect. No company is doing everything that every employee thinks they should be doing. That's just life. The same goes for Headspace. Of course the list of pros and cons won't apply on every topic, but overall I feel like employees here truly love what they do and believe in the Headspace mission. -Genuine people who believe in our mission (my VP is top notch and our Circle is one of the most well-functioning at the company) -Meditation opportunity twice/day -Beautiful office environment/amenities -Can share unique ideas without feeling stupid or dismissed

Cons

-Office politics/growing pains/policy flip flops because the Management Team is still 'trying to figure out what kind of company we are' -Communication breakdown between Circles and the Management Team -Open to dialogue on diversity/gender challenges in the workplace, but nothing seems to come of those discussions

Great mission, disappointing management

Pros

- Great talent. You'll work with some of the best designers, engineers, etc . - Good perks - catered lunches, free snacks, twice daily meditations

Cons

- A LOT of organizational issues and bureaucracy for a small company - Managers are resistant to healthy opposition to ideas that would benefit the company - False leadership. VPs will put mid-level managers in place for show, but mid-levels don't actually have any say or weight to throw around to advocate for their team - Top down decision making - A lot of discussions happening behind closed doors - Managers are not transparent and honest with employees - Managers are self-serving and self-promoting. They don't focus on employee growth and happiness. - No checks and balances. Despite the company preaching an anti-anonymous review culture, managers can order anonymous 360 reviews on employees any time, but there are no channels for employees to review their managers without risking retaliation - No review structure - No structure or predictability around promotion cycles
