Pros

The company mission is interesting The CEO and other teams outside of the commercial team appear to be better functioning Decent pay, but that might not last...

Cons

The commercial team leadership does not listen to employees and is driving the company towards failure. Aside from a select few who are more autonomous, most of the team does not seem actually interested in working together to make the company a success. The culture rewards selfishness, and it seems most people are only concerned about making themselves look busy and blaming others for team shortcomings. If you are ambitious and excited to be a part of a positive team, look elsewhere. Your ideas will not be listened to and any attempts to be proactive will be undermined. It also feels like there is little to no room for individual growth with a very top-heavy team. The company is not performing well, and they are firing people without warning instead of layoffs - I believe in an attempt to avoid paying severance and unemployment benefits. Based on the bizarre interactions and complete lack of ingenuity I witnessed, I don't believe the people leading this business will be successful.

Pros

Daily Catered Lunch. Good coffee.

Cons

The most traumatic work experience I've ever had. I was ready to go to therapy because of my time here. Nobody appreciates work contributed by those of "lower-ranked" positions. Be prepared to slack essentially 24/7 - I've gotten messages from 6am all the way til 2am. No flexibility or career growth. They say they're happy to have you explore other teams but they don't mean it, as well as emotional abuse. No matter how late you stay, how many overtime hours you work, they will write off your work to nothing. This job negatively affected my life & mental state in various ways and I'm so glad I've escaped. No work/life balance, upper management doesn't care about you - you're just as disposable as the work you produce.

We're sorry to hear that you had a negative experience and we wish that you would have come talk to us to help support you. Although virtual, HR, the leadership team, and your department's management team are available to talk about the challenges you may be going through at work. We understand that we're in very challenging times, not only with the state of the world but with the opportunities that Helix has to make an impact in COVID testing, which puts additional pressure on all of us to do the best that we can because we care so much about Helix's success. Because of the opportunity we have to make an impact, especially during this time, and because employees may be working at different hours of the day, each of us has to have an honest conversation with our manager about expectations and what we can manage. Having conversations is the only way we will help each other. We also understand the importance of recognizing all the hard work that is accomplished and that is why you hear so many great shout-outs during our weekly company meeting and why our leadership team will mention how impactful our work is. Lastly, we always encourage employees at Helix to give each other productive and constructive feedback - this is how we will be better. If you want to talk, we’d love you to reconsider. We value every person here and we know that we are positioned to accomplish a lot with our team! Be well, Romina

Pros

Time to look at the remaining executive team

Cons

Leaders by title? Or are executive level titles backed by merit and accomplishments?

Thank you kindly for your feedback and advice. I’m saddened that you left with this perception of Helix and our management team, and would have loved the opportunity to chat directly prior to your departure. I would have been happy to share with you my own perspectives on the company’s journey, which, as I’m sure you know, I have been close to since inception. We started with the mission to empower every person to improve their life through DNA. Like most start-ups, Helix had a business model which was unique, and needed to be proven out. Over time, it became clear to all of us (the company, board and investors) that following the highly successful Healthy Nevada Project (HNP) with our partner Renown, the most effective way to achieve our mission would be to focus on more opportunities like HNP. The work done to date at Helix enabled that focus, by creating some unique assets that are now key components of our Population Health Solution. I’m appreciative of the work done by everyone at Helix, including the senior members of our team, to create the company that we are today, and to enable us to make the changes we needed to make as quickly and effectively as we did so that we could focus on the opportunities that we have ahead of us with a solid, stable foundation. I’m excited to move forward with this team to deliver on our mission. - Marc
