Pros

Good people, cool projects, many work locations across the US

Cons

Expected to work 12 hours/day, 5 days/week, yet only get paid for 40 hrs. No positive incentives for hard work until the PE level (typically at 3-5 years of experience with the company) - working hard earns you more responsibility, more work, and ultimately more hours. The OE role is a lateral move within the company so no pay increase is associated with this move, yet most move into this role after 2 years with the company. You only really start earning a decent buck for your bang at the 5th year. Even people at 5 years and up within the company seem to struggle with work life balance - just not a great company culture surrounding this subject.

Pros

- Very knowledgeable Superintendents - Good medical insurance - Interesting Projects - Large Company = Resource - Organized system - Teammates

Cons

- No work life balance. 60+ hours is a norm. - No vision and over priced dental. - No privacy. Company wants to know everything about who you are and what you do. - Set career path, no room for flexibilty to choose your own career path. - Salary and compensation is apprx 20% lower than industry standards. - 10 days PTO (it will add one day per year until it hits the max 20). - Overly and constantly preach beyond themselves on how great HP is in regards to all of the above....

Pros

Almost all HP trades, Superintendents, and Project Managers are some of the most knowledgeable in the industry. You can learn a lot... if they are willing to share.

Cons

- Stating the Obvious...Long Hours. You get "shunned" by co-workers if you don't work more than the mandatory 10+ hours per day. - ZERO work-life balance... they conduct surveys for this very reason, but they refuse to listen to the employees and improve the quality of life. WHY? - Promotions based on tenure ... there is little to no incentive to work hard if must wait 2-4 years for a promotion rather than reward the hard-workers. - This company WILL make you drive more than 90 miles/day (with no reimbursement or assistance) for some projects.
