Pros

There is a decent level of autonomy in the role because there's incredible lack or clarity. You will meet a handful of thoughtful, generous and intelligent colleagues.

Cons

The leadership takes no responsibility for mistakes. There is a culture of deflecting feedback and dismissing concerns. The executive leadership is made up of an insulated select group who lack true accountability. The conflicts of interests and nepotism are extraordinary. They consistently fail to translate the vision on paper into actionable strategic plans. There is little to no strategy related to talent management and coaching. The company spends way more time trying to increase the value of its assets than focusing on the quality of its offerings. I would strongly advice any educator who is results oriented, has a bias toward action, values diversity of thought and is looking to grow in their practice to avoid this company.

As we continue our rapid growth, feedback from the team is more valuable than ever, and we appreciate the time you took to complete your review of our organization. At Higher Ground, we do offer our Heads of School a higher degree of autonomy since they know their school, team and community the best; it is our hope that leaders will feel proud of the culture they build in their schools. We hope you connected with the thoughtful coworkers you’ve met so far to share experiences, best practices as well as challenges, and have shared your frustration with the leadership team. established collaborative relationships that will continue to strengthen. Our mission will remain to modernize and mainstream the international Montessori movement, making it accessible to children and families no matter where they are. However, as a startup organization, there will be times the path to achieving our mission is not always clear. Throughout those times, we will stay committed to transparency with our team and families, will continue to solicit feedback that is instrumental in the evolution of our culture, and will remain dedicated to the professional development of our team through multiple programs offered through The Prepared Montessorian. It has been clear to us that several Heads of Schools don’t fully understand the benefits of this program offering and the layered support from the local leaders to develop their team. We are actively working to rectify this. We are proud of the support and shared services available to our teams and encourage you to connect with the School Support email so that we can work together in creating a plan to move forward. Thank you for your support and bringing these frustrations to light.

Pros

What matters to me is that I do deeply meaningful work, with people whom I truly respect. I found both at Higher Ground. There is a rare balance of warmth, honesty, drive, and optimism that makes me feel truly fortunate to be part of this team. I also enjoy the variety of work I'm engaged in, and the opportunity to interact with many thought leaders in the wider Montessori and educational community.

Cons

Working at Higher Ground won't be for everyone. It's a very open and collaborate environment, where feedback is offered kindly yet candidly. Sometimes it's high energy and playful; at other times it's serious and analytical. The people and the mission are incredibly ambitious. Take the time to get to know the team and their vision, so that you can make sure it's the right fit for you.

Fun, fulfilling work

Pros

Working at Higher Ground has been fun, fulfilling, and engaging work. I've been given a good deal of autonomy and trust, and my manager works well with me to set goals and standards. Since it's a small startup, I've been able to push myself into new areas of my expertise and learn a ton as I go. And unlike my time at other, larger and more bureaucratic organizations, I do feel like I have a voice in the room and am taken seriously. The work we're doing is mission-driven, and everyone around me is inspiringly good at their jobs.

Cons

It's a mission-driven startup doing hard work in areas where the answers aren't always clear, so it's not for everyone. I still have a life, but its worth consciously embracing the nature of a startup if you're going to work here.
