Pros

Nice location, co workers are usually great, meaningful work.

Cons

Senior management is completely out of touch with reality. Still have the M-F on-site model which is unheard of in this day and age. Literally every single comparable organization is doing hybrid or fully remote for positions capable of being so. Each month they lose employees that went elsewhere because of other organizations offering flexibility. Not even during the Pandemic (before the vaccine was available) did they allow it, basically alluding that they are saying “if you die you die”. I never saw Hoag the same again when they did that. Pay is not definitely not as competitive as other comparable organizations. RNs with 5+ years of experience making the same as new grads at other places. Blatant nepotism.

Pros

Nice location at Newport Beach, Access to Hosptial, Healthcare, and Medical community, Good benefits, and good location

Cons

Working at Hoag during the pandemic was challenging, to say the least. I came onto a team that previously had a long rep sheet of attrition. With all the attrition, comes a lot of lost domain knowledge and good practice, which makes it more difficult for new team members to figure things out. During my time working at Hoag, I was on various different projects, my work was focused on fixing bugs and keeping the system afloat for the old service and websites. While the team members and management became more fragmented, some of the people who were working on the application and main sites left the company. I noticed that there are more contractors and vendors on-site compared to Hoag employees. As one of the remaining engineers, I was expected to keep up the work volume with a lack of support. It quickly became a big stress ball as I found myself fixing outages or different technical issues. With COVID surge and recent changes in the Hospital Staffing shortage and job burnout, I cannot say that I would recommend Hoag to anyone else who is interested in working for Hoag. Hoag is a good hospital that cares about patients, but I would not recommend working there.

Pros

Get to help create a positive experience for patient and patient-care; which is why I chose to join this company. Some of the benefits are decent, just read the fine print please.

Cons

Management does not appreciate feedback; or if so, take credit as if they presented the details themselves. Micromanaged with breaks/lunch; to the point that management calls to ensure you're leaving on-time (regardless if you have patient's in-person/on-phone with Stat/non-stat orders). Been with this company for almost two years, seen approximately 19 people quit/resign from my department alone. High turn-over rate. Pay was reduced and increased work-load.
