Pros

The paychecks are almost always on time and right. I love the customers and I love the co-workers but management is a mess.

Cons

Prehistoric systems still being used for checkout, ordering, and inventory. The schedule for each week is posted at 5pm on Fri. or early on Sat. Don't try to plan your life. They use alot of "Guilt or You should be happy you got a job" on the employees. And management is always in panic mode. "Do it now and do it fast". And many times the chore is done wrong and has to be done twice. We do alot of move it here and move it there. Sometimes items are moved so much we cannot help the customers because we cannot find the items ourselves.

Pros

Employees get discounts on merchandise, which is cool if you like shopping there. For a retail job, HL pays slightly more than other places. They give Sundays off and close an hour earlier than other retailers. I liked unloading merchandise on truck day. I met some kind, hardworking people while working there. I'm still in touch with former colleagues despite not working there for several years. The assistant store manager was a decent guy.

Cons

Management was toxic; I was sexually harassed and they made it worse. I was hazed by other managers and know some of my colleagues were too. There were managers who should've been fired for HR reasons, but they're still at the company, abusing their subordinates. They don't pay for a separate crew to unload merchandise each week, so everyone is expected to do that while dealing with customers. HL is not an inclusive, safe, or welcoming work environment. They love hiring lots of part-timers so they don't have to give benefits, and the handful of full-time people won't leave because they know they can't get as decent of benefits elsewhere.
