Pros

Couldn't find much to compliment whilst there since praise is rare. Look around and you will observe that most if not all of senior management are Irish. Recruitment of ethnic minorities are solely for meeting quotas.

Cons

Very cliquey organization since most of senior management either grew up together, went to school together, live in the same community or children go to school together. As a result, it is impossible for management to be objective and fair. The environment is toxic to anyone who opposes the status quo. Only the fat cats get a pension - hence the reason they don't like to retire.

Decent place to work, but interactions with staff need improvement

Pros

I work at RVCC, so some of my pros might be exclusive to them: -supervision has tended to happen regularly (this is something that was lacking in other agencies I have worked in) -cost-of-living wages happen mostly annually (also something that was lacking in other agencies I've worked in) -supervisors generally seem to consider as many sources of information as possible when dealing with client complaints -- this is positive because always taking the clinician's side or always taking the client's side can lead to a lot of problems. -supervision groups are helpful for getting to know others while working in an overall isolating profession.

Cons

-There is not enough effort to keep licensed clinicians. RVCC/HMC is always advertising referral bonuses for licensed clinicians, but refuses to give raises to current licensed employees, no matter how many clients we see or how fast we are with documentation. No matter how hard we work, there is little effort done to reward hard-working employees. -Our director chose the current pandemic as a time to remind us that we cannot use sick time if we are overwhelmed or tired. Keep in mind, this is our only paid time off. I understand not wanting us to abuse sick time, but a pandemic is not the time to reinforce this, especially since we only get 40 hours of sick time per year (again, as our only paid time off). -Today, after a respectful and reasonable review of HMC was written, HMC's president sent an email to all of HMC talking about how the review was unfair. No disrespectful language was used in the review and the criticisms were fair (e.g. pizza once a year does not equal staff appreciation), but the president's response to send an email to everyone calling it a "black eye" and urging us to come on glassdoor and write positive reviews was very petty, childish, and unprofessional. I know it can be hard to receive negative feedback, but the response you give to it really shows who you are (and as a representative of HMC, who HMC is as a workplace). I've never worked somewhere where the president found it necessary to email hundreds of people because they felt hurt by one well-written, reasonable review.

Culture of bullying

Pros

Mostly wonderful clinical staff, opportunity to provide community-based care.

Cons

The CEO has an explosive temper, and he runs the hospital the way Trump runs the government. You are either with him or against him, and those who offer alternative views or feedback are not long for the organization. He allows physicians to bully the staff without consequences. Reported incidents of bullying by physicians have been ignored by HR and administration resulting in loss of many excellent staff members at all levels. Members of the administration who might not agree with this culture or these decisions are afraid to speak up for fear of losing their jobs.
