There are no benifits, health insurance or 401K plans. But what was most disappointing was the way they choose to advertise their Walk for Alzheimer's. They had an article written in the local newspaper about one of their clients who has Alzheimers. The clients power of attorney gave permission but i still think it was unprofessional to do so. Also another con is the scheduling gets messed up alot.

The pay is terrible. Minimum wage for a few hours of companionship is understandable, but $7.80/hr is not reasonable for the home helper service. For $7.80/hr we're expected to clean house, prepare food, run errands, provide transportation and more. I am frequently assigned shifts and not told about them, or they are outside of my availability. The worst is when I am scheduled for a shift and a day ahead of time the agency calls me and says they've given the shift to someone else who was complaining about not having enough hours. Don't expect to get more than 8-10 hours a week. I am often asked to drive to client's houses that are more than an hour from my home, but it's not worth it for minimum wage. You have to work 2000 hours to get a raise, which will take forever if you're like most employees who are assigned 10 hours or less per week.
