Pros

You can work seven days a week if you really wanted to - 24 hours.

Cons

The pay is very low for the work that we do. We are under paid maids who also wipe people's butts. Clients and their families have you cleaning the moment you get there, to the moment you leave. Only time you get to stop, is when you have to make their food, shower them, or continence care (change adult diapers). You get paid minimum wage for all everything you do and hours worked. It's for the entire San Diego area, so you can be sent absolutely anywhere. If you live closer to the border or Chula Vista area they will still send you up to La Jolla if wanted, and that mileage is not reimbursed. I spend more money on gas than I do food (which I almost never have time to eat).

Pros

Privilege & honor to work with seniors. They become family, a friendship builds along with respect and understanding. The senior knows their caregiver will keep them in a healthy and safe environment. Diversity of personalities, medical, physical or mental aliments are what makes each senior so special.

Cons

There really are no cons to working with seniors. A caregiver walks into a home with the feeling it is also their home so everyone will be loved and treated with respect. Being patient, understanding their movements and thoughts might be slower then our own can be challenging, but most always be present in our thoughts and actions.

Pros

You will get hired almost immediately. The training class is good.

Cons

You get bumped around on jobs a lot. You don't get what you asked for as far as hours. It's a lot of brainwashing as far as you going above and beyond the call of duty to care for the elderly but in reality it's just to make money for the company. You will get put on jobs no one else wants if you're not like much by the staff. The pay sucks. $8 to start and maybe a raise of 10 cents in a year if you adhere to some strict rules. Some of the office staff needs training in how to speak to people. They walk past you and not speak all day, but at the employee meetings, they act as if you are gold. Double standards. Also, if you jump every time they say jump, you are a good employee. Will blow up your phone to send you to jobs.
