Pros

Many of the leaders have undertaken responsibility to create positive changes in work processes and department culture. I have seen ideas myself and others have submitted put into action over the years, which has been encouraging. The company and entities within frequently change and try to improve. There have been times where the work/life balance was not good in the past, but initiative was taken to improve upon that in some areas, and now there are more opportunities to work from home, have flexible schedules, and better staff planning has allowed many areas to enjoy less mandatory overtime. Employee gym membership is inexpensive. 401k matching is nice. The company does a pretty good job at encouraging health and well-being by having a group walking contest, programs that earn points or prizes for participating in healthy activities, employee donation matching, paid time off for volunteering, and opportunities to lead or participate in employee-led activities like food drives, wellness and diversity fairs and fitness groups.

Cons

The deductibles were high on all the employee insurance plan selections available. The pay is lower than average compared to other companies for the same position in my current area. In some departments, many of the leaders would all gather in one area and gossip about employees and other leaders, which was distracting and unprofessional. Employees in one state have a departmental culture that allows them to earn higher quotas by not following policies and procedures. It was demoralizing for employees in another state who upheld a more honest output. It can be frustrating feeling like the only person who is following the rules. Sometimes I've harbored some suspicion that leadership might have been actively preventing promotions or lateral moves of some employees who excelled, while encouraging others to "fail upward." Training and organization is minimal or non-existent in non-customer-facing departments. Many areas love to micro-manage time used on various tasks, when they should really be focusing on finding a way to audit and enforce compliance to a standard level of quality in some areas that might not be as easy to track.

Pros

Supervisor would allow you to use vacation time as needed whether it be for a sick child or just time off.

Cons

Managers, supervisors and directors had no clue about the job itself yet wanted to tell everyone else that they were not getting numbers and that QA was poor. NO communication between corp and my department other than to smack hands and say you did this or that wrong. Management acted as if it would be a crime if we requested the same training for us that corp coders had from their management yet they had no advice when I asked them questions about a record. Mgt too concerned about looking pretty or visiting with the "chosen" associates about what they did the night before. My job did not seem ethical and once one of the supervisors even said..when we are done raping Medicare. Turns my stomach to think insurance is so expensive yet people standing around visiting instead of working. Humana needs to open their eyes and take note of where all the money goes in this company. Terrible when prices go up and up yet their employees will not work so they need to hire a few to carry the load. Humana isnt the only company out there like this but this was my own personal experience.
