Pros

The people who work here are fantastic. This is a side job for a lot of people who teach in some other capacity, so they know what they're doing. They keep a lot of resources on hand, like practice tests, old SAT/ACT questions, text books etc.

Cons

The owner of the business has zero respect for tutors. It's clear he thinks he's above people who put serving their community over making as much money as possible. There's no set approach or guidelines for teaching any of the subjects. You're just supposed to know what to teach because you have talent in your subject area. None of the materials are allowed to come home with you. They keep all their supplies under lock and key, so you can't even go home and write yourself a lesson plan. Pay is less than you would make at Chik-Fil-A.

Pros

The boss is very kind, patient, and understanding, as well as my colleagues. I enjoy working here; the environment is very welcoming and conducive to learning/teaching. I really love working here.

Cons

The only reason I put 4 stars instead of 5 is because the HLC program software is AWFUL!!! It's slow, unintuitive, and just an overall garbage system that seriously needs to be updated -- it looks like it was made in the late 90s/early 2000s. The HLC workbooks also have typos and seem to be a little outdated -- some of the references/examples use phrases students have never heard before, such as "tongue-in-cheek" -- they need to keep in mind that they are serving a new generation of students, and phrases and terms that may seem common to the creator of the workbook are no longer common. The new generation must be taken into account if HLC wants to maintain its credibility.
