      Underpaid big-time

      Pros

      No behavior issues with students.

      Cons

      They charge $75/hr and pay the tutor $13/hr. Typically a student comes in for 3 hours, of which 1.5 hours will be Math so most of the time you're getting dressed and going to work only to make $20. If you can get two students back-to-back it's still just $40 for 3 hours of tutoring + your travel. Also, when students don't show up, you have to wait 1/2 hour then go home without pay.

      Tutor -high quality, but low reward

      Pros

      Flexible work schedule. Easy for retirement or substituting teachers.

      Cons

      Centers are operated by independent owners. Owners are either very adept at running a educational business or not. Our center is run well, but the system is rigid and pay is "ok". Raises and benefits appear nonexistent.

      Pros

      Good opportunity to learn many aspects of running a business. Working with students is rewarding. Possible 4 day work week.

      Cons

      Almost never qualify for the bonus that they sell you in the interview process as "unlimited bonus potential." Harsh management rarely satisfied.
