Pros

there is no pro's, this company is insane

Cons

Let me use the following words to describe the type of work environment in this company; Huntington learning center. Hostile, crazy, adverse, belligerent, bitter, Contentious, contrary, hateful, inhospitable, inimical, nasty. You will experience nothing but hate and ridicule. You will feel as if you are back in high school and all the kids are talking about that massive zit on your face. This company runs like a sweat shop, you will be watched and monitored 24-7 and be told you are never good enough. If you think working with kids can be fun, you are correct, is it rewarding to work with kids, but you not at HLC. Go work at hospital where the children will be respective and appreciate of all that you do. This company had decided to strip all of its employees of its morals and dignity. They begin with a brain wash, the blow smoke up your butt, then finish off with anther brain washing session. The most valuable thing that you can take away from reading this is NOT to work here. The CEO has had legal actions brought against himself and the company. Take a minute and read the other reviews, and google this company. Google it and let all the hatred and ridicule come out and be heard. I can’t tell you how many times I thought of possibly siting at a corner with one of those signs that read “Lunch specials only $4.99, Special!” Freezing my butt off than return to work. They make you work MORE THAN LEGAL amount of hours on a daily basis and don’t pay you for @#$%^&. They are always understaffed, and can never find enough teachers or people to work ( for $10 an hour….who the heck are you going to find at that price point) the turnover is absolutely insane. They can hire 10 people, and maybe 1 will stay for a month. By this time, a RED WARNING bell should be going off in your head NOT TO WORK HERE! This company one day will eventually go under for all the nonsense that they try and cover up legally and secretively. Working at Walmart as a greeter would bring you more happiness and joy than to work in a fiery pit of unruly disgust. The operations management control you a puppet and are attached to you like a baby and their mother’s umbilical cord. They have a way for not paying you for anything and always “forgetting” to pay you. They never close, and will always be open, during holidays, snow storms, and any event they will try and ruin for you. They make you put in a request 30 days in advance ( um hello, I didn’t know I was going to be sick a month ago!!!) they are just the craziest, stupidest, un ethical company to work for! Whatever job you take, spare yourself by not working here, and if, for whatever reason you decide to, sharpen a pencil, because by the end of the day on your first day you’ll be poking out your eye.

We are disappointed to learn about your negative feelings regarding your experience at Huntington. While we appreciate and recognize that you are entitled to your opinions, we do feel it’s necessary to address your review. We ask that if you are open to providing additional insight into the serious nature of some of your concerns, please contact me directly when you have an opportunity at RotinoJ@hlcmail.com. It’s no secret, the work environment at Huntington is fast paced, ever changing and requires staff to commit to “un-traditional” working hours. With this in mind, the schedule requirements are clearly presented upfront before one ever begins working with the company. We understand the time commitment is not feasible for all staff; and, in response, have done our best to work out a more flexible alternative. Part-time teacher schedules have been and remain very flexible. At Huntington, employees are asked to adhere to our Mission Statement and to follow our Code of Ethics and are expected to conduct their business with a high degree of morality, professionalism, and honesty – not only towards our clients, but to one another as team members. Our Mission is to give every student the best education possible. As a direct result of adherence to our principles, we achieve superior results with our students. In about 3 months we increase student math by 1.2 grade levels and reading by 1.0 grade levels. In about 2 ½ months we increase student SAT scores by 192 points or their ACT scores by 4.2 points. Overall compensation packages for full-time center staff are competitive within the industry. Total earnings are based upon performance to goals and expectations, which are clearly mapped ahead of time. In order to achieve success to goals, all team members are supported and motivated by management, as well as the corporate departments. Hard work, dedication, and commitment to our students and families, along with the business, are a requirement of Huntington employees. These sentiments are clearly expressed from the beginning. By keeping all this in mind, it’s an excellent opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children while enjoying a satisfying and rewarding professional career. Again, we acknowledge that your experience was personal and appreciate the feedback. In order for us to learn more and respond to specific concerns, we encourage your to share more at RotinoJ@hlcmail.com. In the meantime, we wish you all the best in your professional endeavors.

Pros

Solid mission that the staff genuinely tries to adhere to. Most employees care about the children and families.

Cons

Where to begin?!? There is absolutely no trust, no loyalty, no work-life balance, and no fun allowed at Huntington. The company is a dinosaur run by owners with business ethics from the Mad Men era. People are spoken to in the nastiest way possible, accused of trying to do a bad job, publicly belittled, criticized, etc. I have seen countless meetings held up just to ridicule a VP over their choice of Excel column headings. Workload expectations go beyond all reason and there are never enough staff on board. Benefits are virtually non-existent, although they will tell you how wonderful their package is - laughable! Employees are treated as if Huntington should be their #1 priority, as if they are reaping the same benefits as the owners are, when nothing could be further from the truth with the low pay and poor benefits. Others on here have mentioned brain-washing and that is exactly it. They treat people so badly that you feel you can't go anywhere or do anything else. On top of this from the owners, there 150 franchisees who will treat you just as badly! Franchisees despise the company owners so they take it out on the employees. It is a cycle of negativity and harassment. In a nutshell, if you work here you will be treated like the dirt on the bottom of a shoe.

While we appreciate your feedback and understand that your view of the company is very negative, the facts do not support your comments. We pride ourselves on the results we achieve with our students and franchisees. In about 3 months we increase student math by 1.2 grade levels and reading by 1.0 grade levels. In about 2 ½ months we increase student SAT scores by 192 points or their ACT scores by 4.2 points. These student results combined with the support we offer our franchisees have propelled our franchised centers to the top of our industry: the revenue at our franchised centers exceeds the revenue of our nearest franchise competitor by 50%. We achieve these results with a dedicated focus on meeting the needs of our students and franchisees and following a strict Code of Ethics as we do so. Virtually everyone in the company and franchise system knows our Mission Statement, which is to give every student the best education possible. This is remarkable, since, in most companies, mission statements are rarely known by any appreciable percent of employees. Our results, Mission, and Ethics are at odds with your experience. Our benefit package is top notch, with a matching 401k plan and miniscule annual increases in the payments we ask employees to make for their health and dental care coverages, coverages that are at the top of the scale in benefits. As we enter our 4th decade, we continue to pride ourselves on having a transparent, honest, and hard-working culture and would be interested in learning more about your specific perspective. Please contact me directly when you have an opportunity at RotinoJ@hlcmail.com.

Pros

Occasionally you get to help kids that can afford to be helped by Huntington. Occasionally you will have satisfying proof that you helped children. Occasionally you will be able to attract good employees to your center...that will leave within months. Occasionally you will make a monthly bonus. Overall, comp and benefits are fair (not great, though) for FT positions.

Cons

In an era when customers have a myriad of progressive and cost-effective choices, Huntington pretends they have none, as evidenced by their lack of investment in center learning tools and curricula, and their overtly pushy sales tactics (you have to bring your husband with you to the "initial conference"...talk about insulting your clients, and being completely out of touch). Paranoid and very bitter work culture. Teachers are expected to work "for the love of teaching", which is an excuse for short-changing and under-valuing them. Many employees care about students, but the Huntington system fails to harness that energy. Averse to change, though top management will pat themselves on the back for introducing tools and processes that companies in the rest of the Western World incorporated 20 tears ago. Outdated systems ("hey, it's worked for 35+ years, why change?") are a fetish of management. Weekly corporate "trainings" are an absurd time suck whose chief value is to allow senior management to observe employees...which a well managed company wouldn't need to do. Incredibly high turnover and lack of honesty and clarity about the operation and the market are top problems at this company. Communications at this company are a mess, partially because management "yesses" the Huntingtons while the reality in the field is far different than they appear to know. Email communications from top management generally written in all caps with a lot of exclamation marks urging you to work harder and sell more...sigh. The good news is that when you leave, and you WILL leave, you will regain your self-respect, dignity and self-worth by no longer having to lie to yourself or to others. Proof? Just look at the change in the number of franchises and the overall business loan default rate of Huntington franchises.
