Working for Hy-Vee

Pros

Hy-Vee is a fairly great company to work for. The jobs are simple for the people who don't want to work hard, and very complex for the people who want to work hard and advance.

Cons

Though they say they are employee owned...unless you are a manager, you really have no power over what happens. You can invest in the company, but most companies let you do that.

Pros

Hy-Vee is usually pretty good about scheduling and time off requests. The work isn't difficult and the pay is competitive with other grocery stores. Additionally, if you stand out from the "i don't care about my job" part-time highschool students, you will receive a lot of respect and trust from the management.

Cons

A lot of part-time employees are students that have little respect for Hy-Vee or their work, and the store suffers correspondingly. Some of the work can be tedious and will become boring after a while, and a lot of initial errors in scheduling seem to be made.
