A lot of potential, but lacks promise.

Pros

I can honestly say that Hyland gave me many great things during my time there. I had tons of opportunities, met many great people, and learned a ton. Hyland is a great job to start your career.

Cons

However, do not be fooled by slides, haircuts, and food-trucks... Sadly, this is not a place you will be able to build a long-term career. The company culture will wear you down to the point that you will either leave or be eliminated. Hyland is primarily interested in being someone's first career where they can bring you in a low salary and you can build experience. Once you have said experience, you are no longer valuable to them. Unfortunately, the executive leadership, particularly on the engineering side of things is just incompetent and it won't take you very long to figure it out and witness the consequences. The company has grown a lot very quickly, and it really feels like a big company now. There is a lot of CYA and bureaucracy to trip over where there used to be true passion to create transformative solutions.

Pros

You will meet some very bright and talented people that genuinely want to help you (coworkers). Training resources are abundant along with decent new hire programs. Main campus has many amenities available. It can be very easy to get caught up in the hype with release parties, Monday meetings which are mainly large pep rallies, and impromptu beer bashes that numb the mind to the daily grind of the place.

Cons

The cronyism here is unparalleled. Friends of the team leaders and management will always get the best projects and will be provided ample opportunity to shine. If you're not in the club or do not make this place your social life... better brush up on that resume and keep a watchful eye over your shoulder. Seasoned professionals also need not apply. This is a place for kids right out of college. Re-orgs are so commonplace there that you never get a sense of who/what/when you'll be reporting to in the next six months.

Pros

The have a relaxed dress code

Cons

Pay is dismally low for the work being done, although they say "work-life" balance is important it is expected that you are available at all times if needed for work, the amount of nepotism is disturbing and all employees know it (if you don't have family in management or who has been here for "years" don't bother), they say the have a "flexible" work environment but that is a lie, benefits are pathetic, limited to no opportunity for advancement (management will tell you you are great at your job but then not promote you and not give you a reason for the lack of promotion), constant "re-organization" brings about no change and seems like just a trick to make employees think that things might actually change
