Pros

Has pretty good facilities (cafeteria, gym, etc). Really easy interview, making this a great paycheck generator while looking for a job.

Cons

Way below standards in pay, even for Ohio which is already fairly low. Despite the great facilities, management doesn't trust you. Made me clock in and out to eat or go to the gym (though to be fair, I think the employees are all salary now). PTO is garbage and you're forced to use it for sick time. Work is largely boring for newer engineers. Due to the high turnover of this company, they ensure they have ample busywork without many opportunities to do more meaningful projects. Hyland's entire hiring strategy is to pull new grads without experience to ensure they don't realize how underpaid they are. On top of that, they have shown the willingness to save money by laying off engineers in favor of outsourcing talent to (somehow) even cheaper, worse engineers overseas.

Hyland Lacks Values

Pros

“OUR PEOPLE create amazing products and solutions that OUR CUSTOMERS enthusiastically adopt.“ - Bill Priemir “At Hyland, it's all about community“ - Ed McQuiston “Really Proud and Excited for all the great work we do at Hyland. I’ll put our team up against anyone in the industry.” - John Phelan

Cons

1st: Stop padding reviews because you want to keep your 4 stars on Glassdoor doesn’t support our core values when you do. Hyland lacks: Honesty, Integrity, and Transparency. Also: Diversity, Fair Pay, and Vision. Here’s the thing, companies lay people off. This is nothing new. Does that make the situation better, no. Especially when a company can’t be honest with their employees, customers, or community about it. Hyland was able to contact the city of Westlake to ensure them “we’re doing fine”, but what about that team that John would put against anyone. They were left in the dark. The executive team and senior leadership are all hypocrites that can’t hide behind the free happy hours and Hyland culture, that we’ve all realized, means so little when you need to support a family or even just yourself. Many employees (even R&D) worked second jobs instead of leaving Hyland to make ends meet. Employees have been begging for fair pay and it got them the door. Working conditions across the board are awful. There’s very little diversity and a few workshops on Diversity won’t change that when the Executive team doesn’t lead by example on making real change.
