Pros

-Good product with a diversity of customers -Good company for resume padding -Good company for life long contacts

Cons

Interested applicants should read all the reviews and make your own decision. The Hyland of today is not the same Hyland it was 5 years ago. Recruiters still show videos of 5 years ago and the perks they provided 5 years ago. It's not the same as it was. Pay is well below average with terrible raise structure and bonus structure unless you are customer facing. Nepotism is out of control with VP family members climbing to the top within weeks of hiring. Health benefits are really expensive and are company funded with only one plan to choose and it's a high deductible plan many employees cannot afford. DayCare center receive all the attention and now occupy 2 buildings, while 6 employees are crammed into pods made for 4. Raises and Bonuses for non-customer departments are insulting and most do not get bonuses. Expect raises well below 3% and a bonus once every 5 years. Mid level management micromanaging will drive you crazy with no clear direction of guidance. Team leaders are often scratching their heads and are leaderless. 8 to 6 working conditions with ZERO work-life balance in departments that do not face the customer. Everyone gets over time and it is optional, but if you don't use it, your manager sees you as a non-team player and is a big factor in raises and bonuses. Employee reviews no longer take place and managers and team leads leave you out in the cold on performance, Zero chance to catch something in your performance until it is too late, and that leads to no bonus or raise. Company Perks used to be a thing, But now just hype for the media. Perks happen about twice a year, unless free Diet soda is considered a perk. Onsite diner is kinda backwards. Over priced small portions to parade in front of customers, within the last 2 years the quality of the diner has tanked. No new thinking, IS department continues to keep Hyland from being a leader in Hi-tech industry, using decade old new equipment in conference rooms with each one being different and the need to carry multi able adapters and having a support guy standing by, because nothing works the way it should. IS ignores updated technology and keeps things as cheap as possible leaving you with little options to hold a successful meeting. Almost zero chance of promotions due to department structuring and constant re-org. Some who are promoted are related to Managers and VP's and often are promoted into new made up departments or job titles. Career development plans do not exist anymore. Under staffed departments who are buried in work are unable to hire in a timely manner, No one knows the formula to hire but one thing is for sure, It takes a long time and most often it's the person who takes the first lowest offer. This is really bad in IS / QA / Tech Support. Hyland still believes that every employee is family, HR ignore important employee complaints and concerns and often changes employee policy with the help of management. The employee handbook is just words that mean nothing and HR can change anything contained within it at anytime without notice.

Pros

Suburban location, nice campus, fitness center, beauty salon, health clinic on site

Cons

Exceptionally poor pay for seasoned employees. Mediocre benefits. They prefer to hire two inexperienced low-paid people than to pay a long-term, experienced employee well. Focus is on fun and games; it’s smoke and mirrors to hide the fact that you are underpaid, overworked, and under-valued. If you let on that you are in any way dissatisfied, you can bet you’ll be on your way out the door. Yes, the fun-culture image is just marketing hype. It’s a place for young people to cut their teeth. I would not recommend Hyland for long term employment. Actually, that thought fits right in with their plan. Just go in with your eyes open.

Pros

- Number 1 is the people. Hyland goes to great lengths to select people who will fit into the culture, because of that, everyone there generally has a laid back and helpful demeanor. - Excellent training programs and opportunities. Even a novice with a little bit of technology know-how can start at Hyland, and with the right amount of effort become a pro. They offer seemingly endless potential for expanding your knowledge of the IT industry. - More events than you'll want to go to. There's seemingly an event, large or small, going on ever other week or so. Be it happy hours at work, guest breweries stopping in or some huge party for Hyland employees and guests. - Hyland is great place to start or accelerate a career in IT.

Cons

That said, it is not a place to stay. Think of it as IT college, eventually you'll want to graduate. - Pay. Every review says it. Every position in Hyland will pay about 58% below industry standard. That's below the average lowest paid person for a given position in the IT industry. While the training is great, and the parties are cool. They don't make up for the wages. - Instead of investing in current talent, Hyland will simply hire new people. this puts even more stress on the current employees as it will be left to them to train new recruits to take over portions of work that were already being handled. It shows that they're willing to invest 30k in a new employee, but not into recognizing the work already being done by current talent. - Corporate transparency is becoming more opaque with several abrupt pay cuts, financial hurdles and executive decisions that have drug many employees through the mud, the morale of many at Hyland has taken a turn for the worse. And the elite provide little to no insight into their reasoning. You'll only hear about the good, never the bad or ugly; but that won't stop it from affecting you. - Unequal treatment between departments. Development and Sales are the bread and butter of Hyland. If you're not in those departments, don't expect to see the same opportunities. - Department hierarchy and promotions are mostly political, not skill based. It's more about who you drink with and do favors for than how hard you work, or even how much sense a decision makes. In conclusion, it's a laid back place to work and the people are easy to get along with. You can use the opportunity to further your knowledge while having fun, but don't expect much in the way of advancement. Work toward graduating to a higher skill level and moving on to a more rewarding IT career.
