Pros

- Laid back dress code - Profit sharing - On-site hair salon

Cons

- Pay is below expectations on the amount of work that is required from you on a daily basis. Many managers are young and have little experience in the departments they are in control of. - Work / Life Balance in non customer facing departments is non existent and depends on your manager. Some departments have set work schedules making it a 9 to 5 job. If you need to leave for an appointment, it needs to be apporved well in advanced and you need to use your PTO time to do so, even of only for 15 minutes or an hour. Zero to limited career paths for many departments (IT / Tech Support / Quality Control) all have high turn over due to limited promotional opportunities and pay scale. Career growth at Hyland means working weekends at home on your personal time and taking on more work from your manager without any chance of pay increase. Promotions will be hung over your head for years that will not ever come to be. - Micromanaging at the department level is out of control and causes stress on employees and work habits. - Nepotisim is ridiculous and very often friends and family are hired in at grade levels higher then tenured employees. Some are fast tracked to management roles within 3 years. - Open door policy is a loose term. It can end your career or mean zero promotions, pay increases or bonuses. - Bonuses are limited and rare in non customer facing departments. I have received one bonus my fisrt year, even with great work reviews for 7 years. - Lack of promotional opportunities for aging workers. many aging workers at Hyland are bypassed for promotions in many departments as experience means less control for managers to handle (IS / Development / Marketing / Sales) - Non- Exisistent CEO. You see him on Monday mornings, but that's it. - HR's Only intent is to build a better cutlure and not a work environment , ignoring inappropriate , unfair treatment to retaliate against employees who complains about a problem. They just try to protect the company by covering it up. Management is not professional and getting personal, abusing their power as there are areas where there are no policy set and up to manager discretion. Job Titles in this organization is not commensurate with their skill set. Some Senior directors just know so little about their area of responsibility. They rely heavily on what other low managers say and make decisions based on common sense even if it is in an area that involves laws and high scrunity by external auditors. This is very risky . Be careful, when they promise you anything during the interview and hiring process, It can be reverted any time and the excuse they have is "things change and there is no need for a policy.
