Not recommended for experienced sales professionals or remote employees

Pros

Not really any worth sharing; most of the great benefits and fun perks that are mentioned in the ratings and reviews are only available to those working out of the HQ in Ohio.

Cons

Consistent with many other reviews here on Glassdoor; the nepotism and favoritism is blatant throughout the organization. Middle Management is particularly ineffective and they have too many people who have been there 10+ years and stuck in their ways/not open to feedback or trying new ways of doing things. Despite being a larger company with a constantly increasing remote workforce, they really don't know how to effectively engage remote employees, despite attempts by HR to do so. The pay is below industry standards and the compensation plans are set-up to make you work much harder every year to make less money, which is something I have NEVER seen at any company I have worked for in the past. Human Resources is basically worthless if you have an issue, and they always side with management and don't even care about completing any form of exit interview to find out what went wrong or how your experience could have been improved.

Westlake (HQ) vs. Everyone Else

Pros

The company perks and events. Probably a good place for those fresh out of school, but not the best for those experienced in their career.

Cons

If you are an employee outside of Westlake, prepare for Westlake leadership to doubt the experiences you share, down play your contributions in favor of uplifting Westlake peers, steal ideas or conveniently snub an idea when initially presented only to bring it up at the next meeting like it was theirs originally, and shrink your budgets. For some reason, leadership in Westlake is threatened by the talent that resides elsewhere around the globe, and suppresses that talent from pay increases, promotions, face-time in front of the organization, and more. There is a lot of talk about Hyland now being a Global company, but company support to succeed outside of Westlake is non-existent. There's a strong imbalance between the experience of Westlake's campuses and the others, creating a common feeling of otherness, almost like a classist system based on geography. If you dare express these concerns directly to management they will retaliate with performance plans or termination, which is why so many employees are afraid to honestly answer on the annual retention survey.
