Overall a great place

Pros

Ownership culture, shared rewards include profit sharing and HSOP, strong management team, on-site medical office, on-site fitness, focus on wellness (physical, mental, financial), heavily involved in the community (32 hours paid community service time), culture of continuous improvement, educational support, generous paid time off, focus on team based solutions, lean and green. I have a great leader too; he has a direct impact on my engagement and I work hard for him and for the company.

Cons

Your experience and satisfaction can depend heavily on your area, team, and leader. Some areas have better work/life balance than others. I wish there were more opportunities to telecommute so that I could move out of the area but stay with the company.

Pros

ESOP, but that isn't as good since a rash of bad management decisions.

Cons

I see a real disconnect at Hypertherm Associates. Leadership talks about being employee-owned and encourages us to “think like owners,” but the reality doesn’t match the message. Middle management feels bloated, with too many directors who can’t direct. Meanwhile, C-Suite decisions have led to shrinking market share, declining employee morale, and a growing disconnect with the real world. You can’t say employees are the most valuable part of the company and then treat them otherwise.

A solid company with some problems

Pros

The people are generally good to work with and care about doing a good job. The company has a strong history and the future outlook is good in terms of business and expansion.

Cons

They try to convince you the total benefits package is great but it is merely average at best. Salary growth once you are in the company is poor, you can expect to fall behind the average pay unless you are aggressive in pushing for raises and promotions. Decision making within the company is very slow. Decisions are always made by groups of people and often get delayed such that the company has lost a lot of agility in responding to market needs.
