Pros

work from home mobility is nice. IBM has nice logo items.

Cons

Senior management is only interested in keeping stock price high. IBM is always offshoring jobs. 2/3 of IBM employees are outside the US now. Vacation blackout dates for a total of 2 months each year. Management has not mentioned a word to it's US employees, and over 5,000 have lost their jobs in the last two weeks. They rule by fear and intimidation. When you manage good business results, you don't get a raise, and instead are fed the line "at least you have a job" all while IBM records record revenue.

Pros

By far, the best reason to work for IBM is the flexibility to work from home. And perhaps it will look good on your resume.

Cons

Non-existent bonuses. 1-2% pay raises (at most). Incompetent management. IBM is offshoring much work to India, Brazil and Argentina. Management is fully committed to reducing the US workforce to a bare minimum.

Pros

Name recognition on a resume. If you do join, don't stay long; a couple of years max, then move on to some other company with better prospects.

Cons

Incompetent upper management. Executives are more interested in driving the stock price up in the next quarter to line their pockets, than to plan for the company's long-term prospects. Most senior management is completely clueless on the technical front and rely on underpaid and overworked folks in the trenches to do all of the hard work. Powerpoint presentations are ubiquitous and long (100+ slides in a presentation are not unusual), and people spend months and months between pre-pre-reviews and pre-reviews before the final review.
