Pros

It's a nice stable company. The onboarding process Opportunity to move within the company End of year holiday party. Some interesting people (good and bad). Young office (recent grads) in DC/monthly happy hours/bagels Projects can be valuable and interesting, if you're on the right team

Cons

I like ICF as a company. I'm not very fond of the project/team that I am on. Salary is low The diversity could use some improvement, especially with the younger employees If you don't work with clients, you won't be appreciated (i.e. it's hard to get people to respond to your emails in general and it's an accepted practice or you'll get a lot of pushback when trying to implement things or nag other employees multiple times to look at your request. I'm not a babysitter). My job description was completely misleading and in fact not what I thought I signed up for. A lot of reactive, rather than, proactive behavior Very silo'd Overworked managers leads to no to them not having time to foster an subordinate's growth, lack of communication. They assume you know things that have been shared with others on your team. Speaking of growth opportunities, it's very limited. While you may be able to move around the company, the idea of a long term career at ICF is not likely. Especially with the younger employees. Just like with anything in life, "It's not what you know, it's who you know." If you are able to get in with the "who's who" and they like you, then they will take care of you in terms of opportunities.

Pros

ICF is a great, secure company to work for depending on the department and management. They offer great benefits despite the pay not being competitive for the Washington DC area. There are two locations in MD and VA and they allow for weekly telecommuting. They also offer reimbursement for higher education and certain job related trainings.

Cons

ICF is a very large company but the salaries are low compared to the DC area. The expectations from management are unrealistic and too high without offering rewards such as bonuses or time off. The company in general holds an extremely toxic environment with little to no growth opportunities. Staff are under appreciated while not being challenged, management is under trained, and the work/life balance is non existent. Happiness does not exist within working hours which makes it not surprising to see how much turn around there is within the company.

Dear former employee, thank you for your feedback. We have compared our total rewards packages to other employers in the industry, and while not above average, they are fair, especially when all pieces of the package are taken into account. We have also recently increased focus on the development of manager capabilities. We are sorry to hear about your personal experience with your leaders and work environment.

Dear former employee, Thanks for the feedback. We’re sorry to hear about your less than stellar experience, especially since the team in Martinsville is very much focused on creating an environment where ICFers enjoy coming to work. To address your last concern, each program ICF supports has specific guidelines based on client requirements and specific Service Level Agreements, which we strive to meet. This may explain why you felt there was inconsistency. Thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts as it will help us continue to improve the experience for ICFers.
