Met some great people

Pros

The people are refreshingly down to earth and friendly. Even though people worked long hours, it was nice to get along with everyone.

Cons

Everything was a mess. With that mess came a heavy workload. With the heavy workload came long work hours. And there didn't seem to be the competence of management to realize how to make things better for everyone.

Not the best place to work

Pros

IGN should be a fun place to work if you think about it - we're all about video games, and the office has the requisite fun stuff like ping pong, air hockey, arcade games and the occasional beer keg. Also the company is fairly small so it's easy to contact whoever you need to - just walk over to their desk or office.

Cons

Management is hugely inconsistent. Some managers are inspirational and good to work with; others are incredibly ignorant, thoughtless, irritable, or disrespectful. The longer I stay at IGN, the more I realize how political the company is. Given our small size, the level of politicization is just unbelievable. Promotions and positive feedback are given out like patronage, while inexplicably-unfavored people with the right skills and the right attitude are set up to fail. As others have mentioned, the pay structure sucks and significant raises are almost impossible to obtain. Bonuses are minuscule.

Pros

Wear whatever you want to work. You get to work in the gaming industry

Cons

Inferior products compared to market trends. Every support team is held together with spit & glue, significantly understaffed. No one is held accountable for any mistakes made and the company morale is depressingly awful across the board.
